Description

Excluding his terrible banter, Pinot Noir might just be Tom Ward’s great passion.  The M.A.W. - named for his father, Mark Andrew Ward - is where he introduces drinkers to his vision for Orange Pinot. It’s not about grand gestures or cellar swagger, but rather about charm, clarity and drinkability.

The 2025 vintage gives exactly that.  It's fully destemmed and fermented as whole berries and sees mostly older oak - all designed to capture the energy and vibrancy of the vintage. Bright red cherries, raspberries and a flicker of spice leap from the glass, the palate supple and juicy with just enough savoury grip to keep things interesting. It’s light on its feet, and certainly shaped for early enjoyment.

Think of M.A.W. as your entry point: a window into the style and potential of Orange Pinot, without the wait or the price tag of Tom’s single-vineyard bottlings. A youthful expression that's ready to rip, and it's absolutely delicious.

92 points - "Persimmon, Rainier cherries and sandy clay. A dusting of cinnamon and sumac. Another bright and cheery wine, lively with fresh acidity, some rooibos tea tannins and a light touch of baking spices, that nestles into the back palate. You are left with some powdered cumin and red fig. This is what Orange pinot looks like when it's handled with ease. A delightfully fresh wine." - Shanteh Wale (Halliday Wine Companion)

90 points - "This is a spicy, sappy Pinot Noir with sprays of aromatic herb and twiggy spice notes floating throughout and a generally crunchy feel. In short it’s a refreshing Pinot Noir with plenty going on. Cherried flavours, mouthfeel and finish are all in a good place here." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

MEET THE WINE

Each wine in the Winemaker Series is as distinctive as its namesake. This collection showcases the signature varietals nurtured, harvested, and expertly blended by our Viticulturist and Winemaker, Tom Ward. Named after Tom’s father and the founder of Swinging Bridge, Mark Andrew Ward, MAW is made from a selection of Pinot Noir clones from across Orange. Meticulous winemaking, coupled with the Orange Region’s optimal growing conditions for Pinot delivers a sumptuously juicy and fruit forward wine with savoury complexity and excellent cellaring potential.

APPRECIATE THE WINEMAKING

The fruit is destemmed without rollers to maintain as many whole berries as possible. All clones are 100% whole berry fermented in open top fermenters. It is plunged twice daily and allowed to
ferment quickly before being pressed towards the end of ferment. Some residual sugar from the whole berries is retained as the fruit is transferred to barrel to finish ferment and undergo Malolactic
fermentation. The wine is sulfured at the end of ferment and left in barrel for 9 months. The oak is 17% new, predominantly puncheons from a variety of tonneliers, with the remainder in 2-5 year old
oak. Each clone is kept separate until the end of ferment and then blended together to best showcase the vintage and Swinging Bridge style.

Swinging Bridge Wines

Swinging Bridge is one of Orange’s premier producers.

This producer has always served up extremely well-priced, classically styled wines, but recent years has seen the quality and variety go to another level.

Owner/winemaker Tom Ward has a vision for Swinging Bridge to be renowned for its premium Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and for innovation, and they're making great strides.

Their Chardonnay is already as good as any in the region; the Pinot Noir, while early days, is winning trophies and shows great promise, the innovative '# Series' is full of all sorts of deliciously quirky experiments.

An excellent producer and a leader for the future for Orange and NSW wine.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
