Description

Stonier’s new lease on life under Julian Grounds is yielding some remarkable results, and this debut release from Thompson’s Lane in Merricks is a serious statement piece.

Combining the north-facing Gance block with their own Merricks site, they've managed to capture the darker, more enigmatic side of the peninsula. It includes a 20% whole-bunch component that acts less like an obvious green stalk hit and more like a subtle seasoning to frame the fruit.

It kicks off with a highly fragrant, earth-driven opening before unfurling into a deep pool of dark berries and autumn florals. It has that brilliant tension between sweet and sour elements that makes great Pinot Noir so seductive. There's great weight and depth to the palate, with fleshy berries, stone fruits and lovely mature tannins.

A phenomenal introduction to a new single-vineyard classic.

"This wine – so beautifully expressed and so beautifully extended – presents an array of savoury earth-like notes, which then run into florals and cherry-berry fruit... But magic this wine most certainly has. So much so that I’m tempted to call it The One."
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

96+ points - "While it initially appears pretty and so aromatic, and it is, the palate is an explosion of flavour, power and definition. A rich combo of spiced sweet cherries, pips, toffee apple and pops of lovely stemmy flavours acting more as seasoning, alongside baking spices and cedary oak, which also pumps up the volume. Fuller bodied, with supple tannins and tangy acidity drawing this to a long finish." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

96 points - "A magic resides on the dark side of the moon but how you get there no one knows, or in wine terms they don’t. It’s a magic dust that appears before you know what you did. This wine – so beautifully expressed and so beautifully extended – presents an array of savoury earth-like notes, which then run into florals and cherry-berry fruit. But whether this wine’s magic comes as a by-product of sweetness, sourness, creaminess and earth, or whether it comes via some unknown path, it’s near impossible to tell. But magic this wine most certainly has. So much so that I’m tempted to call it The One." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

A new wine for Stonier made from the Gance and Stonier vineyards on Thompsons Lane, Merricks. The Gance vineyard is north facing and a powerful site that produces wine with great tannin maturity. 20% wholebunch.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
