Description

Matt Large has loads of experience making Pinot Noir from his time working at the likes of Shaw + Smith, Tolpuddle and Shadowfax to Praeter, so he knows what it takes to make premium Pinot. The Truscott Block Pinot Noir is his own crack at it, drawing on some of the Adelaide Hills’ oldest Pinot vines.

Set at around 550 metres in Piccadilly, the vineyard was first planted in 1980, with further plantings in the early ’90s. Its mostly east- to northeast-facing slopes have silty loam over deep clay, scattered with sandstone and quartz.

Matt retained 15% whole bunches and kept the fruit on skins for 28 days before basket pressing into French oak hogsheads, 25% new. The extended skin contact gives the generous fruit a firm, finely textured frame.

Strawberry and raspberry lead into darker cherry, with floral notes, gentle spice and a little earthiness. Rated 94 points by both Halliday Wine Companion and The Wine Front, this brings together the appeal of bright, expressive fruit and the depth and structure of a mature Piccadilly site.

94 points - "There's an exuberance here. The bright red fruit shuttles forward steadily, building momentum. Strawberry, raspberry and plum, a dusting of beetroot powder and the gently moody black cherry clafoutis that Adelaide Hills pinot is known for is here, too. A little clove, a little earth. It feels generous, utterly delicious and leaves no room for argument. Bang on." - Katrina Butler (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - "The Truscott Block is at 500m asl in the Piccadilly sub-region of the Adelaide Hills. Average vine age is 30+ years. 15% whole bunches. Strawberries, fresh and poached, spiced and pure. This is as delicious a Pinot Noir as you could ever hope to encounter. It’s fine through the finish, well formed throughout, exuberant for the most part but neat and well structured too. There’s an earthen, beetroot-like aspect to this wine too; another bonus. This is a class act from start to finish." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Vineyard
The Truscott Block is situated at 550m above sea level in the Piccadilly sub-region of the Adelaide Hills. The block is located on an undulating slope that is generally E-NE in aspect and consists of silty loam over deep clays, with sandstone and quartz peppered throughout.

The first section of Pinot Noir was planted in 1980, making them some of the oldest Pinot Noir vines in the region, with the rest being planted out in the early 1990s.

Winemaking
The fruit was mostly destemmed, leaving 15% whole bunches, and left on skins for 28 days before being basket pressed and racked to French oak hogsheads (25% new) for maturation. The resulting wine has depth and spice, and a lovely interplay of structural tannin and high-tone florals which lead the palate both high and long.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
