Description

Pooley is currently on an incredible run, and their regional Pinot Noir remains one of the most reliable benchmarks for Tasmanian Pinot.

This 2025 release draws primarily from the family’s Coal River Valley sites - Cooinda Vale and Butcher’s Hill - supplemented by fruit from the Tamar Valley. It’s a blend designed to capture the broader Tasmanian story.

The winemaking under Anna Pooley is all about balance and persistence. Using a mix of premium clones like Pommard, Abel, and 115, the fruit is handled gently with a focus on seamless tannin extraction. Eight months in a mix of French oak barriques and puncheons builds a subtle, savoury complexity without ever crowding the fruit.

It’s light on its feet but carries impressive depth. You get classic, generous red and dark fruit characters supported by fine, supple tannins and a brilliant line of acidity. It’s a polished, persistent Pinot that feels completely poised, offering immediate drinkability while having the structure to evolve beautifully over the next few years.

Customer Reviews

Pinot Noir is a flagship red wine for Pooley Wines, representing a delicate yet complex expression of our cool-climate Tasmanian terroir, primarily from the Coal River Valley vineyards (Cooinda Vale and Butcher's Hill). Our winemaking focuses on creating an elegant and persistent wine that balances generous red and dark fruit character with fine, supple tannin and brilliant acidity. It is crafted using a blend of clones, often includes a component of whole bunch inclusion for added complexity, and is matured for an extended period in a mix of French oak barriques and puncheons, typically with a low percentage of new oak, to ensure seamless integration and cellarability.

Pooley

Pooley is one of the leading family-owned wineries in Tasmania, renowned for their exquisite Single Vineyard examples of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling from the Coal River region, less than an hour north of Hobart.

The family vineyard was planted in 1985 by Margaret and Denis Pooley. Today it is in the hands of the third generation of Pooleys, with award-winning winemaker Anna Pooley heading up the cellar and her brother Matt as viticulturalist. They make a killer team and the family business is going from strength to strength.

Anna's wines are pure, refined and eminently cellar-worthy. A class-act producer setting a cracking pace for all of Tasmania to follow.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
