Description

Mulline’s Modewarre Fumé Blanc makes a strong argument for being Australia's finest Sauvignon Blanc. This is a serious single-vineyard white from Geelong’s Surf Coast, with barrel-fermented texture and the structure to improve over time as well.

The fruit comes from Brown Magpie Vineyard, planted in 2002 on sandy loam over clay, estuary marl and limestone. It’s a different site from Mulline’s Sutherlands Creek release, giving the range another reason to explore Geelong Sauvignon.

Whole-bunch pressed fruit went into just two elongated French oak ‘cigar’ barrels, one new and one used. Natural fermentation with full solids and nine months in barrel built weight and texture around the fruit.

Nectarine and preserved citrus come with lemongrass, a little floral lift and gentle smoky oak. It’s concentrated and creamy through the middle, with fresh acidity and a long, chalky finish keeping everything firmly in shape.

Give it some air now, or another year or two in bottle to open up. A two-barrel release with the intensity, texture and staying power to earn its place alongside your best Chardonnays.

"It’s tip-top from every angle. It’s so good that it pushed chardonnay off my table."

97+ points - "From a single vineyard on the Surf Coast. Whole-bunched pressed into two 320L 'cigar barrels', one new and one used. A pure, bright green gold. Reserved and tightly coiled with aromas of nectarine, spice, summer flowers and a touch of nettle. Lovely persistence and tension on the long, chalky palate. Will be even better in one to two years. Exceptional." - Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "I don’t often sit around drinking sauvignon blanc of any description or style, admittedly. But I did find myself falling into the world of this.

I marvelled. At the intensity of the fruit. At the texture. At the harmony. At the length. And at how more-ish this wine is. It has presence and weight but it slides along so effortlessly, and with such conviction. It tastes of nectarines, lychees, barley sugar, lemongrass, preserved citrus and peach, with a light coating of cedar-smoke-infused cream. It’s tip-top from every angle. It’s so good that it pushed chardonnay off my table." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Mulline Wines

Established in 2018 Mulline Vintners is a double dose of Bens, specifically winemaker Ben Mullen and business brain and wine drinker Ben Hine. Mullen has experience from around the globe, and was most recently winemaker at Clyde Park.

They source fruit from around the Geelong area of Victoria with a focus on Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, working with growers farming sustainably and organically. All steps of the winemaking operation are done with a major focus on looking after the environment.

Their first releases from the 2019 vintage were met with some acclaim - they are definitely young guns to watch out for.

To prevent embarrassment and to encourage rapping couplets... Mulline rhymes with “divine”.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
