Description

Mulline’s Barrabool Syrah deserves a spot on any cool-climate Shiraz shortlist. It brings a little Rhône influence to Geelong, with small additions of Marsanne and Viognier fermented alongside the Syrah. Ben Mullen is on a roll!

The fruit comes from Barwon Ridge Vineyard in the Barrabool Hills, planted in 1999 on limestone and deep black loam. A quarter of the fruit was fermented as whole bunches, followed by eight months in French oak, a quarter new. It’s a relatively short stay in barrel, keeping the fruit at the centre of the wine.

Dark berries and plum come with violet, black pepper and a little incense. There’s plenty of flavour and texture, with ripe, gently chewy tannins carrying a particularly long finish. Supremely complex but oh-so-elegant.

Open it with lamb off the barbecue, or put a few bottles away for the next decade. Single-vineyard Geelong Syrah with fragrance, substance and the length to make it a serious cellar prospect.

"A stunning cool-climate syrah that should age effortlessly over the next decade at least."

98 points - "From a vineyard in the Barrabool Hills, planted in 1999. Co-fermented with 1/2% viognier/marsanne. 25% whole bunches. A gorgeous, bright crimson purple. Molto aromatico with its bouquet of dark fruits, purple fruits, pure violet, graphite, incense and freshly cracked black pepper. The palate is textured and flavoursome, with very ripe, persistent and gently chewy tannins giving the wine focus and structure. The finish goes on and on. A stunning cool-climate syrah that should age effortlessly over the next decade at least." - Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

Mulline Wines

Established in 2018 Mulline Vintners is a double dose of Bens, specifically winemaker Ben Mullen and business brain and wine drinker Ben Hine. Mullen has experience from around the globe, and was most recently winemaker at Clyde Park.

They source fruit from around the Geelong area of Victoria with a focus on Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, working with growers farming sustainably and organically. All steps of the winemaking operation are done with a major focus on looking after the environment.

Their first releases from the 2019 vintage were met with some acclaim - they are definitely young guns to watch out for.

To prevent embarrassment and to encourage rapping couplets... Mulline rhymes with “divine”.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
