Description
Chief Winemaker Adrian Sparks is the current custodian of a blending tradition Maurice O'Shea pioneered at Mount Pleasant in the 1940s. This cuvée, originally named for O'Shea's mate Henri Renault, is a direct nod to the Shiraz and Pinot Noir blends that permanently altered the Hunter Valley landscape.
The raw material here is Australian wine royalty. Sparks pulls Shiraz from the Rosehill vineyard planted in 1946, pairing it with Pinot Noir off vines dating back to 1921. That's an average vine age of over ninety years, delivering fruit with serious natural concentration.
Cellar work is entirely focused on preserving finesse over sheer power. Handpicked and destemmed fruit is fermented separately. The Shiraz spends exactly six months in stainless steel tanks to lock in vitality, while the Pinot Noir sees six months in oak to build structure before the final blend is assembled.
It drinks with a real sense of restraint, steering clear of blockbuster weight to focus purely on nuance. Tart dark cherry, earthy spice, and a dusty tannin frame drive a long, tense finish. It's a flawless entry point into the estate's heritage range, and definitive proof that this classic Hunter blend deserves its current resurgence.

"A touch Moroccan in spice with sumac and paprika, with the Shiraz portion unfurling on the palate early. Pinot Noir here acts as a booster to the florals and uplifting the line of acidity, sandy tannins evenly filter down the palate. There is a savoury moment, long after you put the glass down back, some cassia and tea stained paper. It always gets me how moreish this wine is, a moment on the lips and never enough sips."

"Shiraz in Pinot disguise. Seemingly light and delicate, but it has depth and concentration. Beautiful, vibrant colour and perfume... Let it be in the glass, give it time and say what you will, these two can go together very well, the Shiraz and the Pinot Noir."

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.
No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.
Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.
What that means for you:
- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate
Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.
**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.
If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
