Description

Rivar Ferguson-Mayer is clearly his father’s son - same fearless approach in the winery, same instinct for texture and energy - but his own style is already coming through. This 2025 Villages Shiraz shows it perfectly: lifted, spicy and deliciously drinkable without being overtly herbal.

The fruit comes from ten-year-old vines in Coldstream, north-facing and planted to clone 1654. Rivar’s gone hard on the whole bunch this year - about half the ferment - and it shows in the perfume and fine, chalky tannins that give the wine its shape.

It’s light on its feet but full of flavour: dark cherry, blood orange, dried herbs and a little cured-meat savouriness. There’s grip, freshness, and just enough wildness to keep it interesting.

One of the best-value Yarra Syrahs on the market, and maybe the pick of the reds releases this year.

"Nicely perfumed with dark cherry, white and black pepper and light violet scents. Still quite tightly wound on the flavoursome, quite firmly structured palate."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "Made with 50% whole bunches and matured for six months in neutral oak. Bright crimson purple. Nicely perfumed with dark cherry, white and black pepper and light violet scents. Still quite tightly wound on the flavoursome, quite firmly structured palate. The tannins are present but nicely interwoven. A very good year for this wine, which can be approached now but will reward at least six to eight years of cellaring." - Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - "Meaty, gamey, savoury, dried herbs, undergrowth, dark cherry, dried, salted plums, liquorice and blood orange. Chalky, chewy texture, dry, skittish, blood orange finish. Vibrant and uplifting at the same time as being definitively ‘syrah’ in its perfume, tension, fine tannin profile and lithe form. Should age very well, but rip in too." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Timo Mayer

German-born, enigmatic winemaker Timo Mayer is one of the great characters of the Yarra Valley. The words bombastic, charismatic and wild are as much applicable to the man as his wines.

From his close-planted Yarra Valley vineyard, evocatively named 'Bloody Hill', Timo carves out some astounding wines made with low levels of new oak and minimal additions. The signature of Timo's winemaking style is his penchant for whole-bunch ferment. His wines have an ethereal quality, firm tannins and impeccable structure.

These are compelling and extremely limited wines that tell a unique story of the Yarra Valley.
The Bloody Hill range is now the responsibility of Timo's talented son Rivar Mayer Ferguson, and has dropped the Mayer on the label from the 2021 releases. They continue to be superb value wines.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
