Description

Marli Russell is Mount Mary’s side project, where the Middleton family explore Rhone varieties on their Yarra Valley estate. This rosé comes from those plantings – mostly Grenache with a small portion of Mourvedre – and shows the same precision that runs through all their wines.

Made by the direct press method, half of the fruit is whole-bunch pressed and the rest destemmed before pressing. It’s fermented in stainless steel to keep things crisp, with a little lees work for texture. The idea is freshness first, with just enough detail to make it interesting.

The wine sits firmly in the pale, savoury camp – Provence-inspired. There’s white peach, pomegranate and a touch of spice, all held in line by fine acidity. Mount Mary don't miss!

Vineyard Cultivation
Located in the heart of the Yarra Valley, Mount Mary is a family-owned estate crafting elegant, refined wines from 40 acres of vines. The single-vineyard estate is now managed by Sam and Claire Middleton, continuing the legacy established by Sam’s father, David, and grandfather, John. This rosé is a blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre, sourced from the Marli Russell ‘Rhône Project’ vineyard plantings.

Vinification
Produced using the direct press method. Half the fruit was whole-bunch pressed, while the remainder was destemmed prior to pressing. Fermentation took place in stainless steel to preserve freshness and fruit purity, with subtle lees stirring to enhance texture and complexity.

Tasting Notes
Delicate and aromatic, with flavours of crunchy white peach, pomegranate, and orchard blossom. Inspired by the pale, savoury rosé styles of Bandol, this wine is crisp and dry, showcasing bright acidity that keeps the finish fine and focused. Versatile and food-friendly — casual summer drinking at its finest.

Mount Mary

One of the great Australian domains is in the form of its life with young Sam Middleton as head winemaker.

The list of accolades for the great Mount Mary is long and rich. They are one of the country's most celebrated and collectable family-owned estates. From the impossible balance of the iconic Quintet and Triolet blends to the scintillating Chardonnays and the rare and almost mythical Pinot Noir, there is not a hair out of place in the Mount Mary lineup.

With Sam Middleton in charge of the winemaking process, Mount Mary is entering its second golden age as one of the jewels of the Yarra Valley.
