Description

The idea of Nic Peterkin adding a Cabernet to the ‘Between the Capes’ lineup has been kicked around for a few years now, so we’re thrilled to finally see this inaugural 2025 release. While the flagship L.A.S. Cabernet is a long-aged, single-vineyard powerhouse, this new addition is designed to be a bit more approachable and immediate - a selected blend from 30-year-old vines across Yallingup and Wilyabrup.

Every bunch was hand-picked and berry-sorted until the fermenters were filled with what Nic calls "caviar-like" whole berries. It fermented naturally for nearly a month before moving into oak for 11 months. By keeping the oak maturation shorter than the flagship (which gets 18 months), Nic has preserved the vibrant, primary soul of the fruit.

The result is a quintessential Margaret River Cabernet that is supple, smooth, and incredibly varietal. You get those classic deep mulberry and dark chocolate notes, but with a freshness that makes it very easy to like right now. With only 60 dozen produced from just two hand-selected barrels, this is a tiny-batch debut that definitely lives up to the L.A.S. signature style.

Vineyards

A blend sourced from several vineyards located between the capes of Margaret River. All sites are planted to mature vines, each with a minimum vine age of 30 years, and grown on classic gravelly loam soils.

Winemaking

All fruit was hand-picked and cooled before undergoing meticulous bunch and berry sorting by

hand, resulting in fermenters filled with pristine, caviar-like berries. Fermentation occurred

naturally as whole berries in open fermenters over 20–30 days, with gentle hand plunging and

fermentation at ambient cellar temperatures prior to pressing to barrel.

The wine was matured in barrel for 10 months, then settled naturally in tank for a further 1

month before bottling with a light filtration.

Wine

In contrast to the L.A.S. Vino Cabernet Sauvignon — a single-vineyard wine matured in oak for

18 months — this wine is a blend of two vineyards, comprising two single barrels of Cabernet

Sauvignon. The resulting wine is varietal, supple and smooth, with flavours of mulberry and

dark chocolate.

L.A.S. Vino

Nic Peterkin’s blood runs red with Margaret River wine.

The son of Pierro founder, Dr Mike Peterkin and Shelly Cullen, of you guessed it, Cullen wines fame, the force is strong with this one. His wines are out there, challenging the status quo of one of the country’s most respected wine-producing regions. This is the “New Guard” of Margaret River, and the wines are coming out all guns blazing.

Nic is playing with some varieties off the beaten path of classic Margaret River. The Chardonnays and Chenin Blancs are stellar, as is the Cabernet but the likes of Touriga Nacional and Sousao all find a home amongst his eye-catching range.

There's some serious substance to his project, being named as the 2016 Gourmet Traveller Young Winemaker of the Year for his eclectic and tantalising releases and recently named the Dark Horse of the Year at the 2023 Halliday Wine Companion Awards. Nic is one of the most creative and boundary-pushing winemakers in the country, without question. His Margaret River range is truly unlike anything else you will find in Australia.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
