Description

L.A.S. Vino’s 'Albino Pinot' has always been a bit of a shape-shifter - not quite a white, not quite a rosé, but drinking with the weight and class of a high-end Chardonnay. Sourced from one of the last remaining Pinot blocks in Wilyabrup (planted way back in 1980), it’s a wine that has always occupied its own unique space in Margaret River.

The 2025 release, however, is a massive leap forward in terms of complexity. Nic Peterkin has done something truly wild here, using yeasts sourced from native Australian flowers - specifically red-flowering gum and Rottnest Island tea tree - to kick off portions of the fermentation. It’s a global first that adds a whole new dimension to the wine's DNA.

A blend of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay, the wine was fermented and aged across a mix of French barriques and clay amphorae. The result is absolutely, unequivocally. While you still get that "strawberries and cream" charm, there’s an incredible floral lift and a salty sea-spray edge that makes it feel much more adult. The mid-palate is creamy and textural, backed by a refined, dry finish that really rewards a bit of attention.

It is easily the most complex Albino Pinot to date and comfortably one of the best rosés in the country.

Customer Reviews

A wine fermented with the yeasts from native Australian flowers.

The L.A.S. Vino Albino Pinot is a rosé made from pinot noir & chardonnay grapes grown in forest grove soils over granitic rock. The vineyard sits on the banks of the willyabrup river, only kilometres from the Indian ocean where cool ocean breezes flow up the valley. It’s one of the oldest and last remaining vineyards in Margaret River that contains Pinot Noir. A small one hectare vineyard with high density plantings and two different clones planted in 1980.

We are especially excited about the 2025 vintage. This year, we used yeasts sourced from native Australian flowers to start portions of the barrel fermentations, something we believe is a first in Australia, and possibly the world. All of the fruit is hand picked, hand sorted, chilled and whole bunch pressed.

One barrel (10%) was fermented using yeasts from the red flowers of the Australian red-flowering gum (Corymbia ficifolia). A second barrel (10%) was fermented with yeasts from the white flowers of the Rottnest Island tea tree (Melaleuca lanceolata). Two barrels (20%) underwent completely spontaneous natural fermentations, while the remaining portion (60%) was fermented using inoculated yeast. Of this, 20% was fermented in clay, with the balance in oak.

Why go to all this effort? Each of these separate fermentations brings its own character—layering flavour, texture, and complexity.

L.A.S. Vino

Nic Peterkin’s blood runs red with Margaret River wine.

The son of Pierro founder, Dr Mike Peterkin and Shelly Cullen, of you guessed it, Cullen wines fame, the force is strong with this one. His wines are out there, challenging the status quo of one of the country’s most respected wine-producing regions. This is the “New Guard” of Margaret River, and the wines are coming out all guns blazing.

Nic is playing with some varieties off the beaten path of classic Margaret River. The Chardonnays and Chenin Blancs are stellar, as is the Cabernet but the likes of Touriga Nacional and Sousao all find a home amongst his eye-catching range.

There's some serious substance to his project, being named as the 2016 Gourmet Traveller Young Winemaker of the Year for his eclectic and tantalising releases and recently named the Dark Horse of the Year at the 2023 Halliday Wine Companion Awards. Nic is one of the most creative and boundary-pushing winemakers in the country, without question. His Margaret River range is truly unlike anything else you will find in Australia.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
