Description

Scary Gully is Gentle Folk's highest and coolest vineyard, a steep, rocky ridge at 620 metres in Forest Range that's as hard to farm as the name suggests. It's also one of the great Chardonnay sites in the Adelaide Hills, and is arguably our favourite in the line up of Single Vineyards from Gareth Belton.

The vines went in back in 1984, all Entav 84 clone, facing south-west on shallow quartz rubble over siltstone, sandstone and clay. Gareth picked on 9 March, whole-bunch pressed to tank, settled the juice overnight and racked it to barrel. Twelve months in French oak (25% new) and a short rest in tank followed. Simple, hands-off winemaking that lets the site do the talking - which is very much the Gentle Folk way.

After the minuscule 2024 crop there's a bit more to go around this year, though at 2,717 bottles it's still a tiny release. Expect lime, white peach and a little fennel seed, with that stony, mineral line Scary Gully is known for running right through. It's driven and tight, with real restraint, and the oak sits in the background.

A distinctive, mineral Hills Chardonnay from old vines on a seriously special site. Grab it while you can.

Scary Gully has shallow, rocky soils and is our highest and coolest site. The 2025 Chardonnay balances subtle minerality with lime, fennel seed and white peach. It is driven and distinctive, with a restraint that reflects this special Adelaide Hills vineyard.

Gentle Folk

Gareth and Rainbo Belton are the Gentle Folks, both in name and in sensibility. They are gentle, soulful people, both originally seaweed experts, who turned their hands to farming grapes with an organic and sustainable approach. Today they are crafting some of the most legitimately exciting and exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Adelaide Hills and are firmly rooted in the upper echelon of Australia's lo-fi wine scene.

Their wines cover multiple sub-regions across the Adelaide Hills. There are no additions during the winemaking process, save for a splash of SO2 at bottling to keep the wines pristine as they travel from the Beltons' home to yours. The worlds of fine wine and natural wine collide in the Gentle Folk range. They are beautiful people making increasingly breathtaking wines that you definitely want to check out.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
