Description

Piccadilly is often called the Grand Cru pocket of the Adelaide Hills, and Gareth Belton's Gentle Folk Piccadilly Chardonnay keeps making that case. For 2025 the fruit comes from a new vineyard for Gentle Folk, though hardly a new site. Woods Hill in Summertown was planted back in 1980 and sits at 560 metres, right in the heart of the valley.

Gareth is best known for his hands-off, lo-fi approach from the Gentle Folk base in Basket Range. His single-vineyard Chardonnays show that light touch can still make wines of real substance. The old vines here (I10V1, Mendoza and G9V7 clones) grow in light loamy clay over sandstone, scattered with schist and quartz rubble. It's much the same soil profile as last year's site.

The fruit was picked on 14 March and pressed as whole bunches, then settled overnight and racked to barrel. It spent 12 months in French oak, 25% new, and another three months in tank before bottling. Melon and peach lead the way, with the oak already well tucked in. The palate is dense and generous, but there's enough freshness to keep it lively.

This one's built for drinking young rather than tucking away, so open it over the next few years with roast chicken or pan-fried fish in brown butter. Old Summertown vines and Gareth's deft hand: generous, open Piccadilly Chardonnay, and only 3,433 bottles made.

A new vineyard for Gentle Folk, but an established site in Summertown in the heart of the Piccadilly Valley. Melon and peach lead the nose, with well-integrated oak. The palate is dense and generous, balanced by freshness and made for early drinking.

Gentle Folk

Gareth and Rainbo Belton are the Gentle Folks, both in name and in sensibility. They are gentle, soulful people, both originally seaweed experts, who turned their hands to farming grapes with an organic and sustainable approach. Today they are crafting some of the most legitimately exciting and exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Adelaide Hills and are firmly rooted in the upper echelon of Australia's lo-fi wine scene.

Their wines cover multiple sub-regions across the Adelaide Hills. There are no additions during the winemaking process, save for a splash of SO2 at bottling to keep the wines pristine as they travel from the Beltons' home to yours. The worlds of fine wine and natural wine collide in the Gentle Folk range. They are beautiful people making increasingly breathtaking wines that you definitely want to check out.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
