Description

The Hunter Valley is famous for Semillon that needs a decade in the cellar to wake up, but Mike De Iuliis knows how to craft one you can crack open immediately. This is his estate release, and year after year, it stands as one of the absolute best-value whites in the region.

Sourced from the family's Lovedale Road property where vines were planted in the early 90s, the 2025 vintage was a sprint. Hot and dry conditions condensed the harvest window into just eight weeks, delivering fruit that is pristine and concentrated.

This is styled for "drinking, not thinking." It is light, zesty and incredibly refreshing. You get a massive hit of Meyer lemon, lime juice and a floral touch of jasmine on the nose. The palate is razor-sharp with that classic Hunter acid line, but there is plenty of fruit weight to keep things friendly. While you could certainly stash this away for five years to see it develop those toasty, honeyed notes, it is honestly so delicious right now that most bottles won't survive the summer.

"Pale in the glass, bright and lively. Lifted aromas of waxy lemon, lemon grass, mineral and a sappy, green, woodsy lift. Tangy, pithy and snappy in flavour, with lashings of lemony crunch and crackle."
- Aaron Brasher (The Real Review)

    Not convinced

We have really loved previous vintages. The 2021 has really failed to impress so far. Tastes more like a sauv blanc. Hopefully age is kinder

Really enjoyable wine, Hunter Valley excel in Semillons.

The Story
Nestled in the picturesque Hunter Valley, lies our Lovedale Road property. It was here in the early 1990s that the first Semillon vines were planted, becoming an integral part of the region’s rich viticultural heritage. Renowned globally for its exquisite quality, the Hunter Valley’s Semillon is celebrated by wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.

The Wine
The nose presents an intense burst of citrus, highlighting fresh lemon and lime. On the palate, a youthful profile unfolds with vibrant Meyer lemon zest and a delicate hint of jasmine. This light-bodied wine is beautifully balanced by crisp acidity, culminating in a refreshingly clean finish.

The Vintage
The 2025 vintage in the Hunter Valley was a rapid, yet remarkable, success. Ideal hot and dry conditions condensed our harvesting window to eight weeks. This dry growing season allowed our vines to flourish, resulting in exceptionally high-quality fruit – perfect for our small, family-owned winery.

The Potential
While delicious now, this Semillon is crafted for the long haul. True to Hunter Valley Semillon, it will beautifully evolve with age.
After five years or more, those vibrant citrus notes will gracefully mellow, transforming into a luxurious, creamy lemon meringue on your palate.

De Iuliis

De Iuliis - pronounced [de uli ~ iss] - is one of the brightest stars from the Hunter Valley.

Owners Joss and Anna De luliis first planted vines on their estate in the famous Lovedale sub-region back in 1990, but it wasn’t until their son Mike got involved after graduating from the world-renowned Roseworthy campus (Adelaide University) in 1999 that things really took off.

Today Mike crafts an excellent array of site-specific wines that are a very good modern representation of what the Hunter Valley has to offer.
