Description

Brad Hickey’s been talking about this Pecorino planting at the Lennon Vineyard for a while now, and the first crop has finally landed. It’s a bit of a family affair, named ‘Scooty’ after Brad’s mum - who earned the nickname scooting across the kitchen lino as a kid. She’s a fan of dry whites, so Brad made this one specifically with her palate in mind.

There’s a lovely coppery tint in the glass and a texture that’s all about grip and chalkiness. It hits with green apple and sour melon before a big rush of saline, cucumber-tonic energy takes over. Brad gave it ten months in old Austrian oak and steel, which adds some nice weight while keeping that coastal crunch front and centre.

We’ve followed the Brash Higgins journey since the very start, and this feels like a brilliant new chapter for the label. Only 49 dozen were bottled, so it’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it release. Grab a bottle, some salt and pepper squid, and get stuck in.

From our neighbourly growers at Lennon Vineyard comes this new planting of the coastal Italian white grape, Pecorino. This 2025 is the first harvest, and we’ve worked hard to plant this grape and get it into your glass, let me tell you.

Tasting Note: “The grapes are golden in colour. Bright apple and pear characteristics, herbal nuances of spearmint and jasmine, and a rush of chalky, saline, cucumber-tonic-like vibes. These grapes are refreshing and offer perfect year round drinking, but we reckon Summer is King. BH”

The name “Scooty” is my mom’s nickname, as she scooted across the kitchen lino floor as a little girl. She loves dry white wines, so I made this one in her honour. She approves.
The label art of a sheep floating by in a cloud form refers to the Italian word “Pecora”, part of the grape name, and derived from the word for sheep. Legend has it that the sheep graze on the Pecorino grapes in the Marche and Abruzzo vineyards of Italy. Sheep milk is used in the production of the cheese of the same name, Pecorino. So, we wanted a sheep on the coast, and I was thinking about the idea of cloud shaped animals. Alas..
“A coppery hue. On the nose Pecorino has green apples, sour melons, pear and herbal nuances of spearmint. Deep concentration with grip and chalkiness, some tart, salinity. Extra gear of lemon verbena characters with lime, more apple and cumquat.
We hope to have this wine as a seaside companion for years to come. Bring on the oysters, salt and pepper squid and King George whiting.” Brad Hickey, Vinitor, December 19, 2025

Brash Higgins

Brash Higgins is the label of winemaking American-turned-honorary-Aussie, Brad Hickey.

In his former life, Hickey was one of America's top sommeliers, working for many years crafting some of New York's finest wine lists. He came to Australia and fell in love with McLaren Vale and local vigneron Nicole Thorpe, with whom he now produces highly characterful, minimalist wines from their much loved Omensetter vineyard.

Hickey's wines are extremely expressive. They fall in two camps - the wines sourced from Omensetter vineyard and those sourced from friends around the Vale and the warm, dry Riverlands.
