Consistently one of Victoria's best value Rieslings. The almost off-dry style makes it dangerously easy to drink. Great stuff again from Best's.

Description

The Best's Great Western Riesling is proof that great value and pedigree can go hand-in-hand. From one of Australia’s most iconic family-run wineries, this Riesling is all about easy-drinking enjoyment with a side of serious cellaring potential.

Bright and aromatic, it’s brimming with lively lime, nashi pear, and a touch of floral jasmine. On the palate, crisp citrus and crunchy apple lead the way, underpinned by a refreshing acidity that keeps everything balanced and zippy.

While it’s perfect to enjoy now for its youthful freshness, this Riesling has the structure to age gracefully for up to two decades. That said, you don’t need to wait – its vibrant personality makes it a great match for fresh seafood or light, zesty dishes.

Best’s Great Western Riesling is a brilliant, accessible choice for those who want a quality drop without breaking the bank. One of Victoria's most bankable Rieslings, year-in, year-out.

Grampians riesling at its very best. It defines varietal intensity but so too a fine and utterly delicious delicacy of touch. Aromatic, spicy, apple and lime scented with a lemon-lime essence quality, almost crystalline, that impresses and resonates deep. The palate brings an airy, powdery expression that runs deep and long and intense in lemon-lime citrus, grapefruit pith, apple and gingery spice married to a pure and lively acidity. Runs long, stays bright and will age and keep on going.

Riesling vines were first planted here at Best's Wines in the late 1860s, as part of Henry Best’s ‘Nursery Block’. From subsequent plantings in 1944 (since removed), 1978 and 1998 Riesling has become a significant part of our range. Riesling vines from Great Western produce elegant, flavoursome and age-worthy Rieslings which stand alongside some of the most outstanding examples of the variety in Australia. In recent times, the style has evolved to match the continental climatic conditions to a beautifully balanced wine with texture and aromatics. The climate and soils in the Grampians wine region suit the Riesling variety perfectly. Our cool, continental location makes for very cold winters and strong diurnal (daily) temperature shifts during the growing season. This ensures full ripeness and plenty of natural acidity in the grapes.

The Riesling at Best's has a proven ability to mature gracefully for 20 years or more. This example is no exception and its youthful freshness is a good sign for its long life in the cellar. It will gather complex toasty aromas and flavours as the years pass.

Best's Great Western

Best's Great Western is one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the country.

Their iconic Nursery Block is home to some of the oldest clonal material for particular varieties that can be found anywhere in the world. Established in the late 1860s, this precious vineyard is envied by much of the wine growing world.

Their wines are consistently excellent: the Shiraz dark and powerful, the Rieslings full flavoured and impeccably balanced, and the rare releases of Old Vine Meunier and Thomson Family Shiraz are some of the most collectable red wines in the country.

The Thomson family, and the Best family before them, have given us one of the true treasures of the Australian wine scene.
