Description

The Light Dry Red is Sarah Crowe’s playful nod to the so-called “Hunter River Burgundies” of the 1950s and ’60s – light, fragrant reds that were never Burgundian at all, but local Shiraz made for drinking young. Sarah takes that inspiration to the Yarra, blending Pinot Noir with Shiraz in a way that feels both nostalgic and distinctly modern.

The Pinot brings perfume and bright red fruits; the Shiraz, fermented as 100% whole bunches, adds spice, structure and a little savoury grip. Nine months in old oak ties it all together, keeping the fruit at the centre. The result is a red that’s lifted, silky and effortless to drink – the kind of wine that disappears quickly at the table - something that feels and tastes premium that you don't need to wait a decade to enjoy.

This is Yarra Yering at its most easygoing: fragrant, supple and made for right now. While the Dry Reds remain wines for the cellar, the Light Dry Red is Sarah’s invitation to open, pour, and simply enjoy.

The Real Review 93 Points

Full ruby and purple colours in the glass. Blueberry, dark slate and dried thyme aromatics. Medium weighted, ripe blue and red fruits dance along the tongue with a subtle dried herb brush adding detail. Acidity and tannins work subtly in tandem, lifting and carrying it long but allowing the silky tension to carry to the finish

Hard to put this one down, unless it is to pour another glass. Love every part of this thoroughly delicious wine. A blend of Pinot and Shiraz, it’s light bodied with a perfume highly scented aroma singing an exquisite tune from the glass. The fruit has a slightly juicy feel with the use of stalks in the making providing structure definition. Supremely balanced and just fun to drink. Love it.

This is 60/40% pinot (whole-berry ferment)/shiraz (100% whole bunches) blended prior to bottling. A vibrant crimson purple. Uber aromatic with its aromas of bright red fruits, musk and floral notes. Loads of flavour and a touch of grip on the delicious, medium-bodied and impeccably balanced palate. Approachable now but no problems cellaring this either over the next 3–5 years.

Winemaking techniques encourage an exotic floral fragrance with an expansive fruit palate and fine tannin framework. Pinot Noir was fermented with whole berries in 600kg fermenters and hand plunged gently. Shiraz was 100% whole bunch fermented, left untouched for 10 days before destemming to complete ferment as whole berries. The components spent 9 months in used French oak barriques in our underground cellar before blending and bottling.
