Description

Crafted by the formidable Peter Fraser and his winemaking team, this debut Circle Field Blend is Yangarra doing what it does best - growing Mediterranean grapes in McLaren Vale and turning them into something both delicious and unpretentious. It’s Grenache leading a happy gang of Carignan, Counoise, Cinsaut, Mourvèdre and Shiraz - all organically grown on the estate’s sandy Blewitt Springs soils.

With bright red fruits, a plush mid-palate and the kind of smooth, slurpable finish that begs for a chill and a picnic rug, this is a seriously moreish ‘casual red’ that doesn’t skimp on quality. Think of it as Grenache with friends - literally and figuratively.

The grapes were handpicked, with most co-fermented for a gentle 12 days on skins before maturing in older French puncheons and foudre for 11 months. It’s a blend that captures both the laid-back drinkability and the terroir detail of this special corner of McLaren Vale.

A joyful, energetic red that showcases the pedigree of Yangarra’s biodynamic estate, at a price that’ll make you want to grab a few for the fridge. Your new house red? Quite possibly.

91 points
"Pale, fresh and frisky with grenache-led red berries, cherry, boysenberry and baking spices. Perfect from fridge to cellar temp for alfresco summer drinking."
- Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

91 points - "70/17/10/2/1% grenache/carignan/counoise/cinsault/mourvédre. This is a new addition to the Yangarra line-up, utilising some of the younger vine southern Rhône material. Pale in the glass, it’s somewhat frisky in its mid-girth way with the pedal on freshness. Grenache’s red berry, redcurrant and cherry notes lead, backed up by some boysenberry and warm baking spices. While I wouldn’t drink it cold, this would be perfect coming up from fridge to cellar temperature for drinking alfresco on a summer’s day." - Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

Yangarra

Yangarra Estate stands as one of the defining properties of the Blewitt Springs sub-region in McLaren Vale. Famous for its ancient North Maslin Sands and gnarly old bush vines, it is a single-vineyard estate dedicated exclusively to the varieties of the Southern Rhône.

For over a quarter of a century, the estate was shaped by the late Peter Fraser. Pete was not just the winemaker; he was the heartbeat of the operation and a visionary who fundamentally changed the way the world views Australian Grenache. He championed "purity, beauty and elegance," moving the needle away from high alcohol and extraction towards finesse and site expression. His pioneering work with ceramic eggs, amphorae and biodynamic farming helped earn Yangarra the title of International Winery of the Year twice.

While the loss of Pete is deeply felt across the industry, the wines remain a lasting testament to his genius. From the world-class Old Vine Grenache and the brooding Ironheart Shiraz to the textural, ceramic-aged Roussanne, every bottle reflects his philosophy of "always a little further." Today, Yangarra remains a certified biodynamic powerhouse and a benchmark producer, continuing to honour the legacy of one of the country's greatest winemakers.
