Description

Sue Trott’s dry-grown bush vines, planted in 1952 on the sandy rises of Blewitt Springs, remain some of the most revered Grenache in McLaren Vale. Perched at 210 metres on deep Maslin Sands, the site naturally gives wines of perfume, finesse and length - qualities that have made this vineyard a cornerstone of the Willunga 100 story.

The 2024 season played out gently: a cool start slowed ripening and preserved freshness, while the warmth of January and February filled out the fruit without excess. The resulting wine hums with brightness and detail. Expect lifted aromatics of violets, lavender and wild herbs, layered over red cherry and cranberry fruit. A subtle whole-bunch component adds a whisper of spice and savoury depth, while fine, sandy tannins glide into a long, graceful finish.

Made with a light touch - open fermentation, basket pressing, and mostly stainless-steel maturation – this wine captures the essence of the Trott site without adornment. Already recognised with the George Mackey Memorial Trophy for Best Grenache at the 2025 Sydney Royal Wine Show, this release underlines why Trott Vineyard is a benchmark for Australian Grenache. Elegant, expressive and deeply rooted in place.

97 points
"Just wonderful and, for the quality, obscenely good value."
- Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

97 points - "The 2024 Trott Vineyard Grenache Blewitt Springs leads with a typical high-toned nose with rose petals and cracked pistachio, red apple skins, raspberry leaf tea, timut pepper (that is to say, delicate, spicy, citrus) and shaved fennel. The palate is lent an additional sense of capaciousness from the 10% whole-bunch (a departure from the other two single-vineyard Grenache wines, which are whole berry) component. While this is spicy and mineral, it is supple, silky and full of flavor. These are wines of great balance and freshness, detail and finesse. This is excellent and a total pleasure. This vineyard is usually harvested first of the single-vineyard wines, and this is down to it ripening earlier or at least achieving the desired flavor ripeness sooner. This has a pH of 3.33, 6.37 total acidity and 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

97 points - "From Sue Trott’s acclaimed Blewitt Springs vineyard, a Vale Cru, perhaps, alongside the Smart vineyard. Bush vines, planted in '52 to Maslin Sands over clay and ironstone; about 10% whole bunch; 11 days on skins, élevage in tank (85%) and an older puncheon. The Trott vineyard can often look a little darker in fruit profile, here more into deeper red fruits like blood-red cherries and ripe raspberries. It’s completely refined and transparent with it though, with dark red rose notes, pomegranate, barberry, tamarind, North African spices and musk layering in considerable complexity. This is the most textural and supple of the trio of single-site offerings, but it also has the architecture to age. Just wonderful and, for the quality, obscenely good value." - Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

95+ points - "Blackberry, dark raspberry, mint, liquorice, Earl Grey tea, baking spice, dried flowers. Pushing towards full-bodied in a Grenache context, and it’s the most brooding and concentrated expression of the three single vineyard wines. Quite ferrous and stony, lots of impact, with a firm finish of excellent length. Impressive wine with something of a Barolo-like structure and carriage. Touch and go for 96 points really, but ‘soon come’ is the import, I reckon." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

94 points - "Medium-depth red-purple colour; fragrant spices, red fruits, dried herbs and dried floral nuances; palate is intense and tautly focused, with fine and incisive flavour. It flares brightly in the mid-palate with plum and subte spice flavours, and fades slowly. This will show more detail as it develops in the bottle." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

Excellent modern-style Grenache

Very well made wine, but trying too hard to be a Pinot Noir, not really my style of Grenache.

The 2024 vintage had early season cooler conditions that allowed the fruit to mature relatively slowly through the early season.
This was a good platform to enable the fruit to maintain its’ brightness during the heat of January and February resulting in good fruit expression and tannin structure.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
