Description

A classic Margaret River Chenin with a fresh new voice, the 2024 release is the first under Voyager’s certified organic banner and speaks clearly to Tim Shand’s approach: fruit clarity, textural finesse, and a gentle nod to tradition with a modern twist.

Sourced from some of the region’s oldest Chenin vines, this is an Estate-grown wine through and through which is built to be consumed young. It was fermented mostly in stainless steel to preserve its sunny fruit profile, with a portion fermented in seasoned puncheons for added texture and palate breadth.

It opens with aromas of white florals, honeydew, and hay bales, while the palate is round and juicy, shot through with a citrusy acidity that keeps things lifted. There’s a touch of old oak and soft spice in the background, but this is all about bright fruit, fine detail and drinking joy.

It’s a generous, contemporary take on an old-school variety and a brilliant example of Chenin from one of WA’s best-known names. Organic farming, first-class winemaking, and plenty of flavour to go around.

"The palate is light, bright, driven by refreshing acidity with a slip of texture, and there’s a savoury aspect, a quinine/tonic water, saline character. A delicious, drink-now chenin."

"This release has tightness, and structure. It has excellent flavour: nashi pear and apple, some toastiness, some grass, reduction and flint...There’s grip to this. There’s finish. There’s detail. There’s a lot going on in this wine and yet, courtesy of its cohesion, you barely notice. In short, it’s a gold medal chenin for me."
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

95 points - "A really pleasing, spicy and fruit-driven offering but certainly not sweet or one-dimensional. It offers more. It’s in the tangy and juicy spectrum with honeydew melon, white nectarine (especially the skin), pears and lemon, too. The palate is light, bright, driven by refreshing acidity with a slip of texture, and there’s a savoury aspect, a quinine/tonic water, saline character. A delicious, drink-now chenin." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - "This release has tightness, and structure. It has excellent flavour: nashi pear and apple, some toastiness, some grass, reduction and flint. It also has a quartz-like aspect to the finish, which feels quite something. There’s grip to this. There’s finish. There’s detail. There’s a lot going on in this wine and yet, courtesy of its cohesion, you barely notice. In short, it’s a gold medal chenin for me." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
