The Pret-a-Blanc is the all-rounder in the VS&B range. Comprised of a magnificently fresh blend of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and some seasoning from Sylvaner, careful blending and attention to detail has taken this textural, Alsatian-inspired blend to a wonderful place.

Whether it's accompanying food or flying solo, the Pret-a-Blanc is wine jam-packed with charisma that will suit all occasions.

92 points - "A blend of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Sylvaner from three sites in the upper King Valley. There’s a slightly bitter sensibility to the aromas first off, with an opening of preserved lemon, subtle green almond and bitter herbs before being filled out by nashi pear, green apple skin and hay. The mix of fruit and bitterness makes for an attractive aromatic profile. The palate is lively, fresh, taut and linear but with a lovely seamless texture. Fresh fruit notes of pear, apple and lemon at the fore, with some zestiness and subtle herbs notes in support before a clean and bright finish. This wine sees us continue our exploration of the Gemischter Satz style of dry, refreshing white blends originally grown and made around Vienna in Austria. The Austrian style typically contains as many as ten or eleven varieties as a field blend, which is intended to mitigate viticultural risk. This little cool breeze boasts a mere four: Pinot gris, Sauvignon blanc, Sylvaner and Riesling and is from several upper King Valley sites. However insofar as it’s utterly refreshing, crisp and brightly fruited, we hope we’ve respected the traditional style admirably. We hope also that you’ll find yourself with a chilled bottle of this and a bucket of prawns to peel on a sunny weekend day very soon.

Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown

Tessa and Jeremy are playing a long-game with their Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown label.

They have invested in a block of land high in the hills behind Beechworth and have planted 10,000 vines on it over the last couple of years with the plan to farm it organically. Tessa has a wealth of experience from time at Sorrenberg and Kooyong, Jeremy is an architect by trade with an eye for detail.

It comes as no surprise that the buzz around this husband and wife team is palpable and the praise is high. Max Allen called them, “one of a remarkable number of impressive new wine labels to have cropped up in Beechworth over the last five years.”

They are going to be at the forefront of Beechworth wine for many years to come.
