Description

Ricky Evans knows Tamar Valley Chardonnay. After years making it for bigger producers, TMV is his chance to craft it exactly how he wants—pure, bright, and packed with personality.

Sourced from five standout sites, with Woodlawn Park leading the way (70%), this Chardonnay is a true reflection of the region’s cool-climate charm. The breezy, river-cooled vineyards deliver fruit with both racy freshness and generous weight, striking that perfect Tassie balance. Think ripe white peach, lemon curd, and a lick of sea spray minerality, underpinned by sleek acidity and just a hint of well-judged oak.

Fermented mostly in puncheons, with a single foudre in the mix (15% new), it spent 10 months on lees, gaining texture without losing its crisp, focused edge. Partial malolactic fermentation rounds things out, ensuring the wine stays fresh yet layered.

A serious Chardonnay without the serious price tag. If you’re looking for top-tier Tassie Chardonnay that over-delivers, this is it.

92 points - "Freshness abounds here, delivering classic Tasmanian purity and drive, while also offering impressive intensity and structure – particularly at $38. Powdery red apple, lemon zest, talc, and acacia flower lift from the glass, layered over bitter almond, toffee, and a dusting of nutmeg spice. It’s fresh, pure, and nicely aromatic, especially with a swirl. The palate follows in kind – bright, lissom, and mouth-coating, with vivid fruit notes of green apple, lemon juice, and kumquat. Those toffee and almond tones reappear, supported by a lick of chalky phenolics and zesty acidity that drives everything forward. Very good length, in fact. A delicious and generous Tasmanian Chardonnay offering exceptional value." - Tom Kline (Wine Pilot)

Green apple, lime and grapefruit, lovely acidity. Lively cool climate Chardonnay.

TMV is a snapshot of the Tamar Valley in any given year, from the perspective of TTT.
With an endless number of aspects and micro climates, the wine is produced from five sites from throughout the Tamar Valley. These sites together express what we love most about chardonnay from this Tassie sub region.

Picked right on time, the palate is fresh, yet generous. There’s a lovely sea spray character which carries you into perfectly ripe peach and lemon curd on the palate. The wine went through partial malolactic fermentation, and the acid is pure and long.

Woodlawn Tasmania

Woodlawn Tasmania is the umbrella under which Ricky Evans' three wine labels coalesce.

His three labels include the regional Two Tonne Tasmania series of Tamar Valley Riesling, Chardonnay and sub-regional Pinot Noirs, the experimental series of wines under the Havilah label made for his wine bar in Launceston of the same name and his Single Vineyard range of exceptional premium wines from his beloved Tamar Valley vineyards farmed by Ricky himself.

Evans is one of Tasmania's most dynamic winemakers. Over his time since serendipitously starting the Two Tonne Tasmania label in 2013, Ricky's approach to both farming grapes and making wine has matured dramatically. The young gun is now an established player in the upper echelon of the island and is set to be one of Tasmania's most influential voices in wine for many years to come.
