Description

This wine is the heart of Two Paddocks - a blend of fruit from Sam Neill’s four organic vineyards across Central Otago: The Fusilier in Bannockburn, The First Paddock in Gibbston, and The Last Chance and Red Bank in Alexandra. Each site brings its own personality, and together they show the full story of the region in one bottle.

The 2024 season was a tough one early on. It started with the coldest spring in five years, which meant long nights fighting frost and a fair bit of damage control. A hailstorm hit Alexandra in January too, but the second half of the season turned everything around. February and March were warm and calm, and the fruit ripened perfectly.

In the winery, everything was done by hand, just as it always has been. About half the bunches went in whole, and fermentations were driven by wild yeasts before the wine rested in French oak.

This is a classic Two Paddocks release - bright, savoury and on the fresher side of Pinot from Central. A challenging vintage that finished beautifully, handled with patience and care by a team who know these sites better than anyone.

95 points
"Sinewy with a stony, fine-tannin chew, layers of exotic spice, light game tones and an earthy flow as the wine trails with a bright, minerally cadence, powering it forward; this is great drinking."
- Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "An organically grown, barrel selection of four Central Otago vineyards - The Fusilier in Bannockburn, First Paddock in Gibbston, Last Chance and Red Bank in Alexandra. Mid-ruby in the glass, there’s some lovely whiffy struck match reduction on the nose here, twitching through the wild strawberry, macerated raspberry and red and dark cherry fruits. Sinewy with a stony, fine-tannin chew, layers of exotic spice, light game tones and an earthy flow as the wine trails with a bright, minerally cadence, powering it forward; this is great drinking." -

94 points - "Vivid and racy, with wild berries, smoke and matchsticks on the nose, following through to a medium body with fine tannins. Textured and juicy. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - James Suckling (James Suckling)

Up around OK.

I expected more. The wine seems to fit the Otago pedigree, but it was a little flat for me.

Tasting Notes
Thoughtful and evocative, the Two Paddocks 2024 shows exotic wild herb, red brick and schist derived aromatics. This drives the entry into an enveloping rich, warm, succulent and elegant mouthfeel. The wine is tightly packed and complete, showing tactile finesse and persistence whilst also delivering generosity and enjoyment in its youth.
About the Wine
The flagship from Two Paddocks, the estate Pinot Noir is an organically grown barrel selection produced from the four Central Otago vineyards - The Fusilier in Bannockburn, First Paddock in Gibbston, Last Chance and Red Bank in Alexandra. These small sites are high-density planted in a range of clonal material, cropped to under 5 tonne per hectare with most vineyard practices carried out by hand. An exemplary Central Otago style, which will be enhanced with bottle age.

Vintage Comments
Harvest started on the 26th March at The Fusilier, Bannockburn and finished on the 17th April at The First Paddock, Gibbston. Two Paddocks’ Viticulturist, Mike Wing, celebrated his 20th vintage this year and described this significant season as “A game of two halves”.

The first half was characterised by the coldest Spring in five years and hence there was a lot of frost fighting with overhead water, which in turn stimulated weed growth. The finale was a hail event in Alexandra in January that affected some of the vineyards and so the early part of the growing season is aptly described as challenging.

February and March then delivered warm settled weather and ripening progressed well. There was no Autumnal frost fighting and overall the 2024 crop was clean, ripe and at optimum quantity levels.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
