Description

The Woodcutter’s Shiraz has long been Torbreck’s calling card – a wine that offers classic, classy Barossa Shiraz without the heavy price tag. Fruit comes from a mix of old, dry-grown vineyards across the north and west of the Valley, some with vines over a century old. It’s the kind of fruit that doesn’t need dressing up – just respect and a light touch.

Fermented in open vats, basket-pressed and matured in a mix of large-format and seasoned French oak, it’s made to show the vineyard character first and foremost.

It’s plush and fragrant, full of black and blue fruits, spice and a little earth. The palate is rich but balanced – generous flavour, smooth texture, and fine, savoury tannins pulling it neatly into line. It’s classic Barossa from one of the region’s masters, offering way more depth and polish than you’d ever expect at this level.

"This is an impressive wine and excellent value for money. It speaks of both place—Barossa Valley—and variety in equal measure."
- Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

92 points - "The 2024 Woodcutter's Shiraz is juicy and fruit-driven, despite being structurally endowed and shapely as well. In the mouth, the wine is sweet and abundant in both flavor and weight, yet it retains a freshness and inherent drinkability that has founded and maintained its reputation over time. This is an impressive wine and excellent value for money. It speaks of both place—Barossa Valley—and variety in equal measure. 15.4% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

Customer Reviews

You’d imagine a high country Scottish woodcutter might like a satisfying red at the days end – something rich, warming, full bodied and affordable.

This wine reflects the up and coming Shiraz vineyards of the Barossa, rather than the battle hardened old vines that make up the core of our other cuvées.

But like all Torbreck wines, Woodcutter’s Shiraz receives the very best viticultural and winemaking treatment. Fruit is sourced from hand-harvested and hand-tended, low-yielding vines, then open fermented and gently basket pressed before ageing on fine lees for 12 months in large format seasoned barrels and foudres.

Although this wine is constantly praised for its succulence and richness, there is also a complexity and texture which is rarely found at this price.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
