Description

Dan Standish has always done things his own way, but what he pulls off with Lamella from the ancient Stonegarden Vineyard in Eden Valley is always special. The high-altitude site gives this a completely different framework to his valley-floor gear - there’s a distinct levity and cooler poise here. He goes all-in with 100% whole-bunch fermentation, using the stalks to build a gravelly, highly structural wine that you feel just as much as you taste.

The compressed 2024 season has turned out an incredibly compact, tense, ink-stained core. The perfume hits you immediately, shifting between dark florals, game meat, black pepper and a heavy lick of liquid graphite.

It is remarkably long and succulent on the finish, lashing flavours of mulberry, rich cherry and bramble against a serious wall of ferrous, mouth-coating tannins. There's a subtle Italianate herbal edge alongside licorice and fennel that really takes this out of standard Barossa territory. It's a stellar release of cool-climate Shiraz that shows exactly why this is one of the most sought-after Shiraz in the country.

"This is a wine that you feel as much as you taste and smell. The tannins linger on the palate and help the flavors remain firmly wedged in the memory. I can still taste from one sip to the next; the bridge between mouthfuls doesn't need to be bridged by memory—it is viscerally there."

98 points - "The 2024 Lamella Shiraz features 100% whole bunches, as usual, and the wine offers a profusion of tannins, spice, layers of fruit and length. This is gravelly and mineral, with ferrous tannins, graphite and dried rose petals woven through the finish. There is also a note of raw cocoa. This is a wine that you feel as much as you taste and smell. The tannins linger on the palate and help the flavors remain firmly wedged in the memory. I can still taste from one sip to the next; the bridge between mouthfuls doesn't need to be bridged by memory—it is viscerally there. Notes of licorice, fennel, caraway and timut pepper (in that fresh, grapefruit, black tea, sage, resin, pink grapefruit again, delicate, simple/singular way) coat the finish. 14.9% alcohol, sealed under natural cork and wax." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

97 points - "The source is Stonegarden Vineyard in Eden Valley. The loftier site makes for a distinct levity and prettiness from 2024. It pops and pours with beauty, but a two day decant/open is worthy too.

A wine of width and length, a distinct spread in the palate and noticeable persitance, but in that, a finesse of tannin, a beauty of perfume, a nipped and tucked fruit profile and a lavish array of spice, savoury elements and herbal lift. A hyped-up perfume opens the wine; florals, dark fruits, game meat, exotic spice. The palate so succulent, lashed with inky plum, mulberry, rich cherry, brambly blackberries, black pepper, Italianate herbal nuance and liquid graphite minerality. It feels impossibly long, wonderfully compact and tense, deeply rich, and somewhat cool in the sense of things. A tour de force of shiraz. Honest to goodness." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Customer Reviews

This collection of five Shiraz cuvées from the 2024 Vintage have all been afforded the same “growing up” nurturing regimen or élevage. Over 542 days and nights voyaging through malolactic fermentation, melding with the lively lees, slowly reacting with the tiny ingress of oxygen to mellow and evolve in oak barrels. One notable difference is the concrete egg for the northeast section of the Schubert vineyard.

From a dry growing season these 2024’s have indeed grown into detailed, complex and balanced wines of structured depth and lifted vibrancy. The usual suspects are on offer as well as a rebirth of one of our favourite wines – Andelmonde. After purchasing this vineyard a few years back, Nicole and I have converted it to organic farming, tended to the vines and reduced the yields. As such there are only a few barrels of this one to go around, so we have included it in a mixed six pack to make sure there is enough for everyone to share and relish. Very excited to be able to share these new wines with you!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
