Description

Tom Carson’s Serrat Pinot has long been one of the Yarra’s benchmarks, and the 2024 release shows just how much depth this small vineyard can deliver.

Sourced from the original MV6 plantings alongside newer parcels of Pommard, 943, 848 and 667, this vintage saw around 30% whole bunch in the ferments and élevage in 500L French oak puncheons (25% new). The result is a Pinot with both fragrance and structure — lifted aromas of cherry, raspberry, plum and rose petal, laced with spice and a subtle earthiness.

The newer clones bring an extra layer of extract and tannic precision, giving the palate a tightly coiled core that promises years ahead. Yet even now, there’s a silky, voluminous mouthfeel and a seamless flow of fruit and savoury detail that makes it immensely compelling.

Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion) was emphatic, awarding 97 points and noting its “wonderful bouquet redolent of pure cherry and raspberry… terrific texture and mouthfeel balanced by firm yet supple tannins that bode very well for the future.”

This is Serrat Pinot at its most complete — fragrant, textural, serious and destined for the cellar. One of the smartest buys in Australian Pinot Noir right now.

"A mix of MV6, Pommard, 848 and 667 clones. 25% whole bunches and matured in 500L French oak casks (25% new). A medium, bright ruby red. A wonderful bouquet redolent of pure cherry and raspberry aromas together with hints of earth, rose and spice aromas. The still backward and youthful palate is just as promising with its terrific texture and mouthfeel balanced by firm yet supple tannins that bode very well for the future. At this price, it'll be worth having some five to 10 years from now."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

This wine is from the original planting of MV6 Pinot Noir, plus a proportion of newer plantings of 848, MV6, 943 and Pommard clone. We added about 30% whole bunch in the ferments in 2024, which has given the wine quite a punchy and fragrant aroma, that evolves nicely as the wine sits in the glass. It was aged in 500 litre French oak puncheons, on lees for 11 months. 25% new Tronçais oak.

The bouquet is dominated by the darker cherry and a plummy hint coupled with red fruit spectrum, strawberry, raspberry, spice, cherry, with detailed fragrance and floral notes.

The new clones are adding an extra level of extract and tannic concentration which is exciting, the palate is tightly wound but underneath a silky and voluminous mouthfeel. Serious extract and density.
