Description

Keppell Smith is famously his own toughest critic. After tipping his entire 2023 red production down the drain because it didn't meet his standards, the 2024 Pinot Noir is a belter of a comeback. It’s the youngest Pinot he’s ever released, but Keppell reckons the harmony is so spot-on right now that there was no point hiding it away in the cellar.

It’s less about brute power and more about a detailed, ethereal "Burgundian" vibe. You get this wild mix of raspberry, violet, and white truffle, backed by a savoury, wet-brambles character that feels incredibly sophisticated for such a young wine.

There’s a long acid spine and fine, chalky tannins that frame the red cherry and spice beautifully. It’s an intricate, seductive drink that really opens up if you give it a bit of air. This is a contender for the best Pinot to ever come out of this site. Give it a few hours in the decanter and watch it fly.

"Is this the best Pinot Noir I have ever made?  Certainly it’s a contender with the 2022. And it looks fantastic this young."

"The flavour builds and swells as it progreses through the mouth, fanning into a true "peacock's tail". An outstanding pinot noir, with 'wow' factor!"

"A little more open, a little more aromatic, a little more immediately inviting than the previous release, which is good news for those impatient wine drinkers among us..."

"It’s very Beechworth and very Savaterre... Compelling and individual. It’s a really good wine."

97 points - "Medium ruby to garnet colour showing some development; the bouquet also showing some tertiary nuances buildng a smoked charcuterie and toasty oak mélange, uncannily burgundian and five-spicy, with intensity, persistence and great sweet fruit richness in its core. The flavour builds and swells as it progreses through the mouth, fanning into a true "peacock's tail". An outstanding pinot noir, with 'wow' factor!" - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

96 points - "A little more open, a little more aromatic, a little more immediately inviting than the previous release, which is good news for those impatient wine drinkers among us. Lifted and beautifully perfumed in rose petal and violet aromas, red berries, raspberry, blood orange pith and aromatic dried herbs. Comes together in perfect sync, integrated in fine tannins, with small red berries, herbs and aromatics on show and a freshness of acidity that pulses and brightens the whole experience. But, yes, for those not impatient, be assured it's got a decade in it, easy." - Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

95+ points - "It’s very Beechworth and very Savaterre. Raspberry, cherry, wet leaves, dried rose, cedar and spice, with a some cut red capsicum and smoked paprika, or maybe Lapsang souchong tea. It’s medium-bodied, a little sappy and meaty, red fruits and spice, a beetroot earthiness to it, a crisp feel with light smoky and grainy tannin, finishing with excellent length and a twist of orange peel and ginger. Compelling and individual. It’s a really good wine." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

2024 - What a year!

It didn’t seem extraordinary from a growing point of view but the results are outstanding and speak for themselves.

After rejecting all the 2023 Savaterre reds as not being up to standard (and being tipped down the drain) this is a pleasing outcome. I have never released a Pinot Noir so young but I feel the harmony of this wine is exactly where I want it.

It is destined for a promising future.

The 2024 Savaterre is an immensely seductive wine of great definition and complexity. The aroma alone will have you at “hello”.

Is this the best Pinot Noir I have ever made?

Certainly it’s a contender with the 2022. And it looks fantastic this young. While not the most powerful rendition of Pinot Noir we have produced it’s just so intricate, detailed, seductive and complex. More Burgundy than Australia.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
