When we caught up with Paul to taste through the 2024s, he was pretty open about how difficult the season was in the Huon. It was exceptionally dry and warm, which bottomed out yields to a tiny 1.7 tonnes per hectare for this Dijon Clone selection. Usually, we expect these clones (114, 115, 777, and Abel) to be the elegant, perfumed side of the vineyard, but the 2024 vintage has added an extra layer of concentration.
Despite the power of the season, the wine maintains a lovely weightless texture. It’s a mix of blue and red fruits, almost kalamata olive savouriness. The duo gave this 12 months in barrel with a higher hit of new oak (42%), but because the fruit is so intense from those low yields, the wood just provides a sturdy framework rather than taking over.
There’s a real clarity here that sets it apart from the broader estate Pinot. It’s high-toned and savoury, with fine, filigree tannins that feel incredibly settled. Tiny production, we have just a couple of boxes so we don't expect this Tassie Pinot to be hanging around.

"The 2024 Dijon Clones Pinot Noir is delicate and floral, detailed and fine, with a long spool of mineral flavor and texture through the middle palate and finish. This is savory, leaning more into pomegranate molasses, new leather, cocoa, etc. alongside the rose petals and shaved fennel/licorice to close. The fruit here is all destemmed, and the tannins feel sleek rather than spicy. These are detailed, beautiful, ethereal Pinots here."
