Description

John Hughes has a knack for pushing Riesling into fresh, exciting territory and his No. 11 “Mosaik” proves it once again.

This is Eden Valley purity with a twist: pristine fruit fermented wild and aged for a year on lees in mostly old French oak, with just a touch of new oak for extra spice and structure. It gives you a Riesling that’s layered, textural and seriously delicious.

The nose is packed with aromas of nutmeg, baked cheesecake and chargrilled pineapple, with hints of dried rose petals and salt-rimmed lime. The palate is creamy, rich and spicy, full of candied citrus and crystallised ginger, yet it finishes with that trademark crisp acidity that keeps everything in check.

Whether you’re a Riesling diehard or just dipping your toes in, this is a brilliant, conversation-starting wine. Pair it with fragrant Thai dishes, creamy cheeses or just enjoy it solo. This cuvee exclusive to Different Drop so you won't find it anywhere else and trust us, it's not to be missed.

Delicious!

Absolutely awesome by its self or with food, particularly Asian cuisine. Showcases the ripe, tropical profile that Riesling can don, with the additional body and creaminess of well managed oak, and trademark piercing acidity. Unique and delicious, 9/10

An amazing drop!

We have never had a bad reislingfresk wine, and the slightly high tartness of no.11 feels crisp and so lovely with Thai food that has a bit of kick, or some strong vintage cheddar. Highly recommend.

Delicious blend.

This wine was delicious. One of our favourites from The Rieslingfreak. Unique flavour. Excellent.

The lead up to the 2024 vintage was atypical for Clare and Eden Valleys with unusually warm and dry conditions through the Winter and Spring of 2023. However, three consecutive preceding years of record-breaking rainfall ensured soils, dams and aquifers were well supplied with abundant moisture. While the rains were scarce, a severe hailstorm in late November caused significant damage across the Clare Valley south of Watervale, as well as the northern reaches of the Barossa. Fortunately, our vineyards were largely unaffected. Polish Hill River and White Hutt lie further to north of the impacted areas and our sole vineyard block at Watervale was largely spared. Hail damage throughout Eden Valley was sporadic and comparatively minor.

Summer temperatures and rainfall were in line with the long-term average with sporadic rains dissipating entirely with the onset of Autumn. The Barossa Valley would experience its driest autumn on record, receiving only 15% of the long-term average rainfall for the season. The dry ripening season ensured zero disease pressure with cooler conditions in late summer and early autumn and occasional short bursts of warmer weather ensuring maximum flavour development and natural acid retention.

Our No.11 Mosaik brings together the elegance of Eden Valley Riesling, the exotic funk of wild-type yeast strains, and the supple phenolics and subtle spice of French Oak barrels to create a complex masterpiece of flavour and texture. Matured for 12 months on full yeast lees in 70% old French Oak Hogsheads, and a single new French Oak Puncheon, this wine is a uniquely creamy and textural Riesling experience.

Aromas of freshly grated nutmeg, frosted cinnamon buns, and baked cheesecake are complemented by the rich fruit flavours of chargrilled pineapple, zesty lime cordial and dried rose petals. The decadently flavoured palate features succulently supple phenolics that bring texture and complexity to the lusciously creamy mid-palate, where rich fruit flavours mingle effortlessly with the spicy oak, evoking holiday vibes of candied citrus, Russian Honey Cake and crystallised ginger. The richness of the palate is briskly wrapped up by crisp, driving acidity that brings the wine to a laser-focussed finish with exceptional persistence. A unique spin on Riesling with wild appeal that is bound to intrigue and delight!

Rieslingfreak

Rieslingfreak founder & winemaker John Hughes is quite simply making the most comprehensive, high-quality and remarkably priced range of Rieslings in the country.

Growing up in the family Riesling vineyard in Clare Valley, which John still farms today, Riesling simply runs through this man's blood. John, with the help of his talented winemaking wife Belinda, make only Riesling - not a bottle of any other variety - and they've honed their craft to a level unmatched in Australia.

They are two of the nicest people you're likely to meet, so wholeheartedly committed to their vision and craft, and we are proud to have worked so closely with them for so many years. These wines rank amongst the very best value to be found anywhere in Australia, and we give them our fullest recommendation. Enjoy!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
