Julian Langworthy is remarkably candid about the 2024 Forrest Vineyard Chardonnay. He openly admits that the 2024 vintage was warmer and required more work than the effortless 2023, yet he suspects many people will actually prefer this release because it carries a little more flesh on its bones.
Sourced from a specific mid-ridge section of the Forrest Vineyard in Wilyabrup, this site is planted with the classic WA Gin Gin clone on deep silver-grey sands just three kilometres from the coast. To combat the warmth of the season, Julian picked the fruit incredibly early - January 25th, a full month earlier than the previous year - to lock in the site's unbelievable natural acidity.
The winemaking follows the classic Nocturne SV playbook: hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed straight to puncheons, and fermented wild. It was then left to rest on its gross lees, unsulphured, all the way through to October to build serious texture and complexity.
The result is a generous, highly expressive Chardonnay. It still delivers that trademark Nocturne flint, funk, and electric acidity, but it is wrapped around riper white stone fruit and brown lime. It has a beautiful, al dente phenolic grip that grounds the richness perfectly.

“Electrifying and energising from the first sip to the last drop... This is zesty and ultra-refreshing thanks to the acidity, yet beautifully textural. Gosh, this is so good.”

“This is a brilliant wine, one that defies the dryness and heat of the season and shows the strength of great vineyards in great areas. The structure and texture are the highlight.”
