Description

The Watervale Riesling from Mitchell Wines is filled with a whole lot of bang for your buck.

The wine has been crafted in the exact same traditional way as when it was first released back in 1977 - hand picked fruit, careful treatment and low levels of tinkering in the winery, fermenting with natural yeasts and left to sit on it's lees for an extended period of time.

All things that make Clare Valley Riesling great are present in this wine - refreshing, electric citrus notes, delicate florals, fantastic balance and little hints of minerality. Gorgeous stuff at an insane value price!

"The vibrant jasmine and white peach aromas of this youthful dry riesling leap out of the glass at you. Great concentration and purity on the totally focused, medium-bodied palate. More than enough juicy peach fruit to balance the glistening samurai-sword acidity that powers the very long, wet-stone and lime finish. Already delicious, but also has great aging potential. Drink or hold. Screw cap."

95 points - "This offers flavour and texture. It’s soft, but has balanced acidity, with ripe apple and pink grapefruit, lemon sorbet, and a bit of perfume about it, and that fine chalky texture and grip on the long finish is so nice, with a gentle quinine bite and some savoury bits." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

95 points - "A riesling that typically packs in a bit more flavour, character and textural detail, and no slouching in those departments with this release. Chalky pucker underscores a core of fleshy red apple and lime fruit characters with faint toasty spice, some nutty savouriness and a thread of briny minerality, all coming with immense presence and persistence. The wine is character-filled and complex, plus, importantly, so very delicious to drink. It's a class act, and incredibly well priced for the quality." - Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "Juiced Granny Smith apples, white pear and Feijoa flesh. Calamansi limes, Jonquil and Frangipani blossoms. Spring has sprung when you crack open a bottle of this wine. It’s filled with Polly Anna dreams and hope. Its fragrance penetrates the room like a diffuser on high. Candied apples, white peach and grapefruit juice on the palate. In the midst of this economic eye roll, this should be the wine on your weekly rotation, incredible value and flavour as always. Mitchell wines are here for your silver lining." - Shanteh Wale (Wine Pilot)

95 points - "If this is anything to go by there are going to be some sensational Rieslings from Clare and Watervale in 2024. Mineral citrus notes on the nose are super intense. The palate has a deep intensity with a crunchy lively lift extending to an extraordinarily long finish. Slaty crushed rock and wet pebbly features on the palate provide such appeal. This is high-class stuff." - Ray Jordan (Wine Pilot)

94 points - "Clare Riesling from 2024 is going to make a lot of people very happy. It looks like we have another stellar vintage. Certainly, the early releases are more than exciting and this is very much in that category. The vines, dry grown, here are over sixty years of age. Near transparent in colour, this is wonderfully pungent. It seems to be dripping lime juice with florals, orange blossoms and lemon curd, with a wet stones backing. Excellent focus, this gives the impression of being layered in early complexity. There is great length and the intensity never waivers. Enjoy this for fifteen to twenty years if you can keep your hands off." - Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)

93 points - "Lashings of lime, lemon, talc and a slaty minerality on the nose. Fresh, crunchy, lively and citrus driven on the palate. There's some shapely phenolic grip on the finish and the acidity has real presence and precision." - Aaron Brasher (The Real Review)

Incredible value riesling

The price doesnt make any sense given the quality here. At this pricepoint, you might get some of your wishlist but not all, this delivers solidly in all factors. Whats the catch?

Sensational value , delicious

This is the staff of life, something to satisfy in the summer heat,
Mitchell delivers again with this flavorsome class act, finishing with an enticing
mineral talc, inviting another sip.

The story of Watervale is one well worth telling with classic, flinty wet sand minerality with kafir lime and lemon blossom. The flavour is fresh and bright. Struck match flintiness with exotic limes. Long and linear with sweet fruit and textural tangents giving the wine complexity and generosity.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
