Description

"The wines are a stunning collection of real thrill—wonderfully classic and so expressive."
- Anne Krebiehl MW (Vinous)

"Vintages like this have become rare in this century—ones in which full fruit ripeness combines with lightness, fine slate spice and lively acidity..."
- Stephan Reinhardt (The Wine Advocate)

The 2024 vintage across the Mosel gave Katharina Prüm the ultimate canvas for her signature style. It was a proper cool, traditional European growing season that pushed harvest well into October. This deliberate, slow ripening delivered pristine fruit with an effortless composure and heaps of natural charm. There is zero heavy, forced alcohol here, just pure, unmanipulated regional definition.

While the estate's single-vineyard grand crus get all the collectors fighting, the Bernkasteler Badstube—a blend of stellar plots surrounding the town of Bernkastel—is always the clever buy. The slate here yields a more immediate, open-knit personality that drinks beautifully without decades of cellar patience.

It hits with a clean, classic Prüm reduction that lifts away to reveal crunchy green pears, citrus oils, and fresh garden botanicals. The Spätlese sweetness is generous but perfectly reined in by a long line of electric, driving acidity and a fine, stony mineral dustiness. It is low in alcohol, fluid, and brilliantly structured.

95 points - “This beautiful Spatlese has an extremely wide spectrum of aromas that range from garden herbs to fully ripe mandarin oranges. Then comes the very elegant, racy, barely medium-bodied palate, which has great purity and length in the brilliant finish. Limited production due to spring frost damage.” - jamessuckling.com

95 points - “The 2024 Riesling Bernkasteler Badstube Spätlese is so openly fragrant and shimmering with chervil, moss and a beautiful overtone of lemon balm. More air brings a fine, gorgeous, charming note of green citrus peel. The palate has a tart sweetness, like a Seville orange peel or green-tinged tangerine. The 2024 is seductive, brilliant, toned, bright, elegant and absolutely charming.” - Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous

93 points - “The 2024 Bernkasteler Badstube Spätlese offers a nose that is both intensely fruity and delicately spiced, with notes of almost tropical fruits and subtle vegetal undertones. Juicy and piquant on the palate, this lush yet finely textured and well-structured Riesling develops a refreshingly cool note with a firm structure and elegant tartness. This is a fantastic Badstube Spätlese to pair with food, especially since it doesn’t actually taste sweet.” - Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate

At this level, the Prüm wines are still light in body, but the flavour intensity and depth of character increase markedly. The Prüms describe the 2024s as both charming and classic, in a union that feels just right. There is brightness and balance here, but considerably more depth of fruit than in the Kabinett-level wines, although not overt sweetness. Instead, it is a question of more flesh, more power and, therefore, wines that can stand up to richer food. Katharina Prüm rightly sees Spätlese as one of the estate’s great food-wine categories, and in 2024 that feels especially true; although the 2024 Auslese-level wines are also remarkable food wines!

Joh Jos Prum

Founded in 1911, and sporting one of the great unbroken track records for quality (save a short reprieve during World War II), J.J. Prum is one of the great wine producers of Germany, and indeed, the world.

These rare Rieslings are legendary for their incredible longevity, purity, and articulation of place. They are touted by critics as some of the finest examples of Riesling to be found anywhere on the planted. As Stephan Reinhardt once wrote, "the world always seems a better place with a glass of Prüm in hand."

The Prum family has seen the estate through three generations, with current director Dr. Katharina Prum taking hold of the reins during the 2007 harvest. With Katharina's commitment to tradition and quality from her family's label, J.J. Prum is sure to remain one of the benchmarks of the Mosel for decades to come.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
