Description

Frankland Estate’s Isolation Ridge Syrah is an absolute benchmark for cool-climate Australian Shiraz, and such an underrated wine from this wonderful producer.

Grown on the remote, ironstone-rich soils of their organically certified home vineyard, the team approaches this with a traditional Northern Rhone mindset, blending in a tiny dash of Viognier and using older, large-format French oak foudres. This approach allows them to steer completely clear of heavy, jammy, or oak-driven styles, focusing instead on pure, site-driven elegance and a highly structural framework.

The 2024 growing season turned out a beautifully poised, tightly wound wine that highlights the true cool-climate potential of the Frankland River. In the winery, the team incorporated a small percentage of whole bunches during fermentation to inject a layer of savory complexity and fine-grained structural tension.

The nose is bursting with a beautiful perfume of black cherry, violets, aniseed, and smoked meats. The palate is effortlessly chic and medium-bodied, balancing its bright plum and mulberry fruit flavours with raw cacao-like tannins and a refreshing, crunchy acidity. It finishes long, sleek, and incredibly persistent.

This is a serious, tightly bound Syrah and one of WA's best.

"There is a charming tension and vitality, a long, fine and streamlined finish showcasing serious potential to flower in a bottle... A benchmark Frankland River Shiraz."
- Angus Hughson (Wine Pilot)

96 points - "This 2024 Syrah Isolation Ridge shows impressive poise and subtlety with savoury, aged spice and dark earth against a backdrop of blackberry, with excellent fruit definition. Very youthful with a firm base of gravelly tannins while the fresh, integrated acidity is well balanced with layers of cherry compote, earth and spice. There is a charming tension and vitality, a long, fine and streamlined finish showcasing serious potential to flower in a bottle. Still tightly bound, this needs years but is destined for great things. A benchmark Frankland River Shiraz." - Angus Hughson (Wine Pilot)

95 points - "The same vineyard providing the fruit for a scintillating Riesling and a really superb Syrah/Shiraz – the French would have a fit. The team usually incorporate a small percentage of whole bunches in the fermentation and also a dollop of Viognier. And possibly Mourvèdre in some years. Maturation is in older French oak, large foudres, as well as puncheons. The colour is a vibrant dark purple/magenta. This is beautifully perfumed with aromas of florals, black cherries, aniseed, violets, plums, Asian spices and smoked meats. There is exquisite balance, good focus, excellent length and the wine finishes with very fine, sleek tannins. It remains persistent, while the intensity never wavers. A wine which will provide great pleasure over the next fifteen to twenty years." - Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)

94 points - "Pretty aromatics and a well-composed, mid-weight palate, lead to well sustained finish. Everything here feels impeccably placed. Cherry-plum flavours, roasted peanuts, peppercorns and an array of dried herbs. There’s an aspect of velvet to the texture but overall it feels fresh and energetic. This wine is still properly finding its feet but it will be beautiful in time." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

94 points - "An effortlessly chic Syrah from the cool air of Frankland River. Mulberry, rosehip and warm concrete. In the mouth, it’s medium-bodied, but generous nonetheless, with raw cacao-like tannins that feel both chocolatey and squeaky. The fruit is bright and wrapped in liquorice and rusty-nail minerality. It’s bound tight to begin, I’d suggest throwing it through a decanter and drinking it with a juicy sausage." - Cyndal Petty (Wine Pilot)

Frankland Estate

Frankland Estate are one of the leading producers in the Frankland River region of WA. Family owned and operated since 1988, their major focus is on certified organically grown fruit that reflects its terroir rather than the hand of the winemaker.

Their cool climate Rieslings are regarded as some of the best in the region and the country with several single vineyard releases that could be a contender for Australia's Best Riesling.

Frankland Estate is cutting a mean wave through the industry and picking up a lot of recognition in the process.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
