Description

Winemakers Hunter and Elizabeth Smith source the grapes for this Cabernet Franc from their organically-farmed Isolation Ridge vineyard. While the region is famous for Riesling and Syrah, the  ironstone soils here really bring out the best of Bordeaux varieties like Cab Franc, showing off its signature minerality and savouriness, backed up with plenty of plush fruit.

The 2024 vintage was a beauty in Frankland River, offering a warm and dry growing season that led into a beautifully balanced, early harvest. The fruit was picked with perfect sugar levels and bright natural acidity, allowing for minimal intervention in the winery. Fermentation took place in open-topped vessels before the wine was tucked away in older, neutral French oak to protect its vibrant, primary perfume.

The nose is incredibly lifted and aromatic, showing off red currants, wild raspberry, a touch of graphite, and that classic, leafy tobacco spice. The palate is beautifully bright, carrying a core of crunchy red fruit over a bed of fine, chalky tannins that give it a lovely, savoury shape.

Frankland Estate is known for crafting wines that straddle the border between the old world and the new, and this is no exception.  One of our favourite local Cab Francs.

"A light juiciness and a shimmer of flint and slate tannin add complexity. This is such a ripper drink, and shows the intent of complexity. By the way, this goes OK with a chill, too."
- Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "A riesling bottle for a frisky, energetic red feels pretty apt, and so we have one here. Sheesh, this drinks a treat. Sleek and lighter weight despite the alcohol percentage on the bottle, the cavalcade of alpine herb, maritime greenery, dried seaweed and saline minerality makes for freshness in cranberry, mulberry and blueberry fruitiness. A light juiciness and a shimmer of flint and slate tannin add complexity. This is such a ripper drink, and shows the intent of complexity. 94 points - "From a small selection of our original 1988 Cabernet Franc plantings.

A sort of raspberry tea thing, with the floral perfume that comes from that, it could be rose or hibiscus or something of that ilk, there’s some spice and nutty character, pencils, blackcurrant, dried herbs and mint. It’s medium-bodied, has some cranberry crunch to acidity, a grainy grip to tannin, a slight chicory bitterness, with a slightly gummy finish offering good length. It’s maybe a little more chewy than usual, yet has so much personality, so over the line for 94 points." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

91 points - "Hunter Smith is a firm believer in the power of Cabernet Franc. The grape plays a significant role in his superb Olmo’s Reward red blend. Here, we see it as a stand-alone wine showcasing a wild berried, herbal flecked look that highlights its striking individuality. The fragrant introduction tells the story with aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, cherry with hints of green pepper, dried herbs, jalapeño and tobacco leaf. Savoury and intriguing, the palate is pure Cabernet Franc with its herbal influenced edginess and sour cherry fruits and summer berries. Texturally, it’s quite chalky and dry. Offers a fascinating insight into a grape we so rarely see single." - Jeni Port (Wie Pilot)

Frankland Estate

Frankland Estate are one of the leading producers in the Frankland River region of WA. Family owned and operated since 1988, their major focus is on certified organically grown fruit that reflects its terroir rather than the hand of the winemaker.

Their cool climate Rieslings are regarded as some of the best in the region and the country with several single vineyard releases that could be a contender for Australia's Best Riesling.

Frankland Estate is cutting a mean wave through the industry and picking up a lot of recognition in the process.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
