Description

Dominique Portet might’ve built his name on Bordeaux-style reds, but these days he and son Ben are just as dialled in with Pinot Noir.

This single vineyard wine comes from a cool site in Gladysdale - a quieter corner of the Upper Yarra that’s home to some pretty serious Pinot. Unlike the low yields of the previous year, the 2024 season was beautifully warm and even, allowing the MV6 clone fruit to reach ideal maturity while holding onto its natural freshness.

It’s a Pinot that’s all about balance - not too light, not too plush - just right in the middle with wild strawberry, dried clove and super fine tannin. A small inclusion of whole bunches in the ferment adds a lovely sappy perfume, while time in quality French oak has given the wine a subtle structure without getting in the way. It's silky and moreish, but has the bones to age too if you want to sit on it.

This is another very strong release from the Portet team.

94 points - "From a vineyard at 230m in Gladysdale. All MV6, 15% whole bunches. A light, bright ruby. Pretty with bright red fruits, florals and a little green peppercorn spice. Gently sappy on the light, red-fruited, spice-inflected palate. A delicious short- to medium-term proposition." - Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

Profile

Pure and finely detailed, with bright red cherry, wild strawberry and subtle savoury notes. The palate is poised and layered, showing supple tannins, freshness and quiet depth. A refined Pinot Noir with clarity, length and presence.

Fermentation

Handpicked fruit from our best parcels was gently destemmed, with 10 percent whole bunches included to add lift and aromatic detail. Fermentation ran for 18 days with careful extraction, followed by nine months in selected barrels, 20 percent new, to build structure while preserving purity and finesse.

Vineyards

From our Gladysdale vineyard, planted to the MV6 clone on red volcanic soils. Low yields and naturally small berries from this site deliver concentration, structure and fine detail, forming the backbone of this single vineyard expression.

Vintage

The 2024 season was warm and even, allowing Pinot Noir to ripen fully while retaining freshness. Careful timing delivered fruit with balance, depth and refined tannin structure.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
