Description

Julian Langworthy likes to joke that this is the best wine he makes, but also the bottle he drinks on a Tuesday night with pizza. While the Deep Woods reserve wines collect all the gold trophies at regional shows, this estate blend is built purely for instant enjoyment without demanding a premium price tag.

The 2024 growing season was incredibly fast and warm in Margaret River, prompting one of the earliest pick dates on record. Julian and the crew harvested the blocks early to lock in natural freshness, using thoughtful pumping over during a two-week skin fermentation to manage the structural grip. They matured individual small components in seasoned French oak hogsheads before blending.

What hits the glass is a classic, mid-weight expression that is plush, fresh, and deeply satisfying. It skips dense, over-extracted weight for a bright mix of mulberry bramble, crushed cocoa nibs, and a lifted sprig of native shrub spice. The palate is fluid and soft, kept perfectly in check by a powdery, fine grain of tannin.

A humble, unforced red that completely overdelivers on everyday drinkability.

winemaker's note
This is one of the best wines that Deep Woods Estate makes. It's the one that I cellar for special occasions and also drink on a Tuesday with pizza.

Julian Langworthy, Chief Winemaker

Tasting Notes
colour
Dark purple with red hue.

aroma
This wine exhibits aromas of violets, blackcurrant and bay.

palate
Structural Cabernet tannins are softened with perfectly ripe Merlot to give the palate ultimate harmony and fruit weight.

Dark fruits evident with fine cedar oak flavours on the finish.

cellaring
This wine demands cellaring and overall complexity will continue to increase over this time.

vintage
2024 was one of the earliest vintages ever seen in Margaret River. Consistently warm and dry conditions allowed for exceptional fruit ripeness and flavours with a very well-balanced natural acidity for such a warm season.

Extensive marri blossom resulted in minimal pest pressure throughout the vineyard.

The quality of fruit is fantastic and 2024 has produced some very exciting wines with flavour definition and structure.

winemaking
The fruit for this wine predominately sourced from the original estate vineyard with plantings dating back to the mid-80s.

Individual small batches underwent 12-16 days of skin contact during fermentation in a combination of static and open fermenters. Careful pumping over to harness the colour and fine skin and seed tannin was employed

Pressing followed directly to barrel to complete fermentation where the wine aged for 12-16 months prior to careful blending.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
