Description

Fabiano Minchella has spent over two decades working vintages across the globe, but his By Fabiano project is entirely about bringing his Southern Italian roots back home to McLaren Vale. He’s determined to prove the region's future lies in heat-hardy Mediterranean grapes, handling everything from vine to bottle on his family's estate to ensure a completely local production loop.

The fruit here is pulled from the Stocks Hill vineyard along Tatachilla Road, where vines planted in 2019 sit on a profile of brown-red loam over a limestone base. The farming is highly deliberate, utilizing the meticulous Simonit & Sirch pruning method to keep the canopy and yields strictly in check.

After a hand harvest in late March, the ferment was kept cool in open-top vessels with thirty percent whole bunches thrown into the mix. To preserve its natural drive, maturation was split between stainless steel and seasoned French oak, eventually going to glass unfined for a tiny run of exactly 1,207 bottles.

The result is a restrained, mid-weight, distinctly European-leaning red that drinks beautifully from day one.

"The varietal choice is inspired by Fabiano Minchella’s time in Puglia, but the making leans into grenache and pinot noir methods, with 30% whole bunches. Negroamaro can be brutish, rich and animalic, with, as the name points to, a bitter (amaro) finish, but this is not that... It’s a truly engaging take on the grape."

Negroamaro can be brutish, rich and animalic, with, as the name points to, a bitter (amaro) finish, but this is not that. The close has a pleasing twang, yes, and the fruit is spicy and broodingly dark initially, but there’s space between everything, a certain clarity, a lightness of touch. So much spice, savoury dark fruits, some dried mint, orange peel, tobacco, a leatheriness, tart red berries and cherry within, and all carried by succulent acidity and assertive yet graceful tannins. It’s a truly engaging take on the grape." - Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
