Description

Bindi’s Quartz Chardonnay is always a bit of a mystical release. It comes from a tiny half-hectare patch at the top of the hill where the soil is absolutely littered with white quartz. While the winemaking isn't drastically different from the Kostas Rind, the fruit from this specific spot just seems to vibrate on a higher frequency. It’s the same DNA, but with every dial turned up to ten.

The 2024 vintage was a cool, wet ride in the Macedon Ranges, but as Michael Dhillon noted, things dried out perfectly in March to deliver "pretty ideal" conditions. There’s an incredible sense of purity here. It’s packed with grapefruit, lemon confit, and a distinct flinty, struck-match character. The oak—about 35% new—is perfectly tucked in, adding a gentle nudge of spice and a rounded, textural weight without ever crowding the crystalline fruit.

This is a serious, tightly wound Chardonnay defined by its energy and saline, slate-like minerality. It’s incredibly polished and flows with a lithe, dart-thrust of flavour that lingers long after the glass is empty. With only 150 to 250 dozen made, it’s a rare bird, but for those who value tension and power, it remains the absolute benchmark for the region.

"Super perfume. Incredible intensity. Amazing sense of purity... a lithe, dart-thrust of flavour and shiny, slate and granite-like minerality. What A Wine.

"Showing all the hallmarks of fine Burgundian wines while expressing a strong sense of place... This is a serious Australian chardonnay. Wow."

99 points - "The power and purity here are impressive, with flashy, mineral-edged and reductive aromas of lemon confit, lanolin, magrut lime, struck matches, grapefruit and spices. The palate is textural and rounded, brought together by a fine line of acidity and a lingering core of fruit. This is a serious Australian chardonnay, showing all the hallmarks of fine Burgundian wines while expressing a strong sense of place from its quartz-grown vineyards in central Victoria. Wow. Drink now or for decades to come. Screw cap." - Ryan Montgomery (jamessuckling.com)

97 points - "In March things dried out after a wet and cool start. Concentration came through. Healthy vines, lovely canopy, small crops, clean fruit. “Pretty ideal” in the words of Michael Dhillon. Perfect (not) storm. Mackerel on the plate in oil and vinegar, a slab of bread and house-cultured butter. Away we go.

Super perfume. Incredible intensity. Amazing sense of purity. Then the shape, a lithe, dart-thrust of flavour and shiny, slate and granite-like minerality. You bathe in the river water characters, the gentle nudge of stone fruit, green apple, faint green almond notes carry through. Exceptional, compact nature and a crystalline trail of flavour lingering. What A Wine." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

96 points - "Medium-full yellow colour; the complex bouquet shows some development with creamy, toasty, baked apple Danish pastry and biscuity oak nuances, the palate has a focused intensity and drive as well as a generosity of flavour that appeals. The finish is very long, dry and refreshing. This is lovely now but will show us more if kept a year or two longer, at the minimum." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

At the upper end of the Chardonnay planting, where the quartz incidence in the soil is the greatest the fruit has extra complexity, finesse and intensity. This wine comes exclusively from this soil. This area is approximately half one hectare in size. The characteristics are similar in the Quartz Chardonnay to the Kostas Rind Chardonnay but all aspects are amplified here yet remain in complete harmony.

The winemaking is the same for both wines however the Quartz Chardonnay sometimes spends a few months longer in barrel and there is a higher percentage of new wood used, being around 35%.

Production varies from 150-250 dozen per vintage.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
