95 points - “In ’22, Yabby Lake bought a site in the Coal River Valley at Campania planted in ’17 to 5ha of pinot noir and chardonnay. Ta da! This is the inaugural release and, for such young vines, a lovely drink. Lots of upfront dark fruit aromas and flavours, cherry cola, cocoa, blueberries, black cherries and plenty of savouriness throughout. It also has a structural firmness, its tannin in particular marching through the back half of the wine in duplicated steps, as if it means business. Our philosophy at Yabby Lake is to craft single vineyard wines of great purity and character, reflective of our site and the season in which it was grown. In 2022, we embarked on an exciting new chapter for our family wine business – purchasing a special site deep in the heart of the Coal River Valley in Tasmania. We continue the same philosophy at our Tasmanian vineyard, and we are excited to introduce our inaugural expressions of this site – a single vineyard chardonnay and pinot noir from the 2023 vintage.
