Description

Pressing Matters has built its reputation on one thing – Riesling. From their estate vineyard in the Coal River Valley, each wine is made to express a different balance of sweetness and acidity, and the R9 sits on the lower end of the sweetness range. It’s got a touch of residual sugar, just enough to round the edges without making it taste sweet.

The 2023 season gave clean fruit and bright natural acidity, and it shows. Hand-picked, cool fermented and bottled young, it’s all about purity and line. Lime, green apple and florals lead the nose, with a firm mineral streak that keeps the palate tight and dry.

It’s crisp, refreshing and full of drive – a proper Tasmanian Riesling that’s built for food but easy enough to drink on its own.

R9 = 9g/L of RS, so this is a (very delicious) wine that walks the line between dry and off-dry. Light straw with a flash of green and aromas of freshly squeezed lime, lemon and green apple sorbet along with citrus blossom, stone and clover. Wonderful focus and tension, just a suggestion of phenolic texture and that wicked Tasmanian mineral line that gets the saliva going. So good.
