Description

The 2023 Moss Wood Amy’s is a superb Bordeaux-style blend, offering a delicious introduction to the celebrated Cabernet-based wines of Moss Wood, at a sensational price.

Moss Wood, founded by Bill and Sandra Pannell in 1969, is a true pioneer of Margaret River. Now under the careful stewardship of Clare and Keith Mugford, the winery continues to uphold its legendary reputation. The fruit for Amy’s is hand-picked and undergoes meticulous sorting and fermentation in stainless steel before maturing in French oak barrels for 18 months, ensuring refined texture and complexity.

On the nose, expect vibrant aromas of blueberry, blackberry, and cherry chocolate, with subtle notes of cedar and toasted oak. The palate follows with luscious red currants and firm, well-integrated tannins. The wine’s bright acidity and balanced structure make it highly enjoyable in its youth.

If you’re after a mid-tier red with a serious pedigree, the 2023 Amy’s is your go-to. Elegant, approachable, and built to impress, it’s perfect for any Cabernet occasion.

Perfumed, deeply brooding and floral aromas of crushed blackberries, raspberries, dark cherries and potpourri with blueberry compote, baking spices, bitter chocolate and violets. The medium-bodied palate has a silky texture, finely tuned tannins and real depth of fruit with mineral notes and a vibrant finish. A blend of 75% cabernet sauvignon with equal parts merlot, petit verdot and malbec. Delicious. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

94 points - "The 2023 Amy's hails from a superb vintage in Margaret River. Mild, dry conditions set the tone for the season, and while many of the wines are yet to be released, the early indications are that this could be one of the most astounding vintages of Margaret River's modern era history. We shall see. You get flowers and purple fruits, fresh leather and iodine, nori and crushed shells, with dried herbs and threads of invisible acidity. This is a superb rendition of Amy's. It's a testament to the ongoing attention to detail in viticulture and the soft hand of the season." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

Perfect Cab blend that shouldn't be that good for the price, but it's really is!

Such adjectives like mouthfillling, opulent or multi-layered aren't usually used when describing a $35 bottle of wine. But this cab blend doesn't disappoint. A perfect drinkable drop from an amazing winery!

    Enjoy!

This is a highly rated and consistent wine, doesn’t disappoint, enjoy its flavours, cheers

PRODUCTION NOTES
The fruit was hand-picked and delivered to the winery, where it was hand-sorted and destemmed. The must was then pumped into stainless steel closed fermenters and inoculated for primary fermentation. During primary fermentation, pump-overs were conducted 3 times per day to enhance colour and flavour extraction. Once primary fermentation was complete the wine was pressed and then transferred to 228L French Oak Barriques, none of which were new. Malolactic fermentation was conducted in barrel after which, the wine was racked into tank; blended, analysed and finally, returned to barrel and aged for 18 months. In June of 2024, the wine was racked from barrel to tank and blended. Fining trials were conducted to assess tannin balance. On the 1st of July 2024, the 2023 Moss Wood Amy’s was sterile filtered and bottled.

TASTING NOTES
Colour and Condition:
Deep brick red; bright condition.

Nose:
Dominated by bright aromas of cherry chocolate, blueberry, blackberry, marshmallows and rose. In the back ground there are tarry and cedar notes and toasted oak.

Palate:
Carrying over from the nose the blueberries and red currants are immediately apparent. The firm tannin structure is accented nicely by the generosity contributed by the medium-full body of the mid-palate. The acidity has a gentle linearity which pairs nicely with the texture derived from the French Oak. The vibrancy and liveliness of the fruit weight makes this wine very appealing and should be enjoyed while in its youth.

CELLARING
The Amy’s was made in a youthful fruit-forward style that is very approachable as a young wine. The tannin structure was well-balanced and does not need an extended aging period in bottle.
