Description

Jasper Hill is a Heathcote institution. Their family owned vineyards have been producing fine wines since the early eighties and with second generation winemaker Emily McNally taking up the charge of her father, they aren't slowing down anytime soon.

This is one of their best-known cuvees.

Powerful, linear Shiraz displaying an array of exotic spices, dark fruits galore, and earthy tannin support structure.

Fleshy, and seamless, and a little lighter than other recent vintages this would nonetheless repay several years cellaring for peak drinking pleasure.

"Damson plums, dark chocolate, licorice, cinnamon bark, graphite… Full-bodied with macerated figs, black olives, mulberries and spices. Refined and age-worthy. Best from 2030."
- JamesSuckling.com

"Aussie bush notes, briar, black fruits, plum, tapenade and spice… Ferrous soils bring balance. Subdued now, but destined for the cellar with grainy, savoury tannins and a promising future."
- Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

"Plum, mulberry, dark cherry, sweet spice, violets and ironstone… Full-bodied, plush and powerful with inky dark fruits, nutty oak and grippy tannins. Big time, full bore shiraz."
- Aaron Brasher (The Real Review)

96 points - "The nose is deep and brooding with savory aromas of damson plums, dark chocolate, licorice, cinnamon bark and graphite. The full-bodied palate has finely integrated tannins and focused acidity supported by a tightly bound mouthfeel, showing notes of macerated figs, black olives, mulberries and spices. A refined Australian classic that will age gracefully for decades. Drinkable now but best from 2030." - JamesSuckling.com

95 points - "Siblings Georgia and Emily Paddocks tend to be viewed as competitors, but, in fact, they complement each other. Georgia offers insight into the ferrous, mineral rich soils in which its vines grow, and the natural balance it affords the wine, joined by Aussie bush notes, briar, black fruits, plum, tapenade and spice. It's subdued in its infancy, it needs time, but the basis for another big future is there, supported by grainy, savoury tannins. This one is destined for the cellar." - Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "A dark, deep, plummy red in the glass. Heady aromas of plum, mulberry, dark cherry, sweet spice, violets, dried herbs, bramble and ironstone. Full-bodied, powerful, mouth-filling and opulent in flavour. All dark fruited, plush, firm and very concentrated. There's a drive of inky dark fruits, nutty oak and grippy, textured tannins. Big time, full bore shiraz." - Aaron Brasher (The Real Review)

    Beautiful. Fruit driven

Bright, plum on the nose. Red fruits on pallet, fine tannins. High alcohol but not hot. Fruit driven heaven after 3 hours decanted.

Our aim is to make great wine, with the preservation of nature's flavours, complexities and balance in our wines by using minimal intervention in our vineyards and in the cellar - to allow the individual vineyard's "terroir" or sense of place to express itself by 'interfering' as little as possible. Our wines are grown, made and bottled entirely on the estate from our own organic unirrigated vineyards. We produce our own composts and have never used synthetic chemicals on either the vines or the soils, since our vineyards were planted in 1975.

Viticultural practices are simple: own rooted vines (ie. not grafted on to American rootstocks to confer Phylloxera resistance), no irrigation whatsoever, minimal tillage, natural inter-row mulching leading to broad bio-diversity, very low yields giving depth and intensity to our wines. Only hand pruning of the vines and hand harvesting of the fruit can allow us the human connection to our living soil.

Reminiscent of our wines in the early years, a true Georgia’s Paddock style of raspberry with red earth notes and soft integrated tannins. While this vintage initially appears a little closed, given a few minutes, opens up to a brilliant red fruit and spicy nose. Juicy strawberries and fresh raspberry fill a generous palate with great length. Delicious now but easily cellared for those with patience. High grade cork sealed, 15.0% alcohol.
