Description

Steve Crawford knows how to handle Marsanne and Roussanne.

They are two varieties that love having some winemaking thrown at them. He allows this fruit, grown on a biodynamically farmed vineyard in Vine Vale, a week on skins before being pressed to barrel.

While sleeping in the oak, Steve stirs the barrels regularly, continuously 'working' more creamy leesy characters into the palate.

Honeysuckle shows its head, stonefruit and a soft powdery tannin structure and crisp acidity all combining into a generous, voluptuous golden white wine that speaks of the Barossa Valley and a caring winemaker.

94 points, "It’s superb. It’s all about chewy texture, grippy chalky elements, savoury-sweet perfume, flavour that support dryness, pucker and minerally elements. You can say brown pear, ginger, preserved lemon, waxy apples, brine, vanilla cream, almond, but it all doesn’t quite sum up how much is going on here, and how harmonious it is. It’s somewhat golden colour is the lure into the portal of detail, but hey, the rest does the trick. It’s magnificent. It’s a stunner. It’s wildly delicious." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

    Great Shape & Texture!

I've tried this wine in the past but it's always hard to find. Stoked to see DD get it in this year, finding the rare gems as they so often do. This blend is all about texture, it's rich and powerful but with a freshness underneath. Very more-ish, and just a lot of wine for the price. Onya Freddie! Get it while you can.

From the Vine Vale sub-region of the Barossa Valley.
Certified biodynamically farmed by the Ahrens Family

Roussanne Marsanne - 51% Rousanne, 37% Marsanne and 13% Riesling

Tiny parcels were handled between 2-4 days skin contact, barrel fermented, lees contact. All leads to a textural expression of the 2 varieties, with plenty of spice and acid to pull it all together.

"Rousanne won the arm wrestle this year, Lenin more anise, and pear / quince texture & grit, with lemony acid. Marsanne weaves honey and camomile into the Rousanne texture to provide a bit more oil and softness to the mix." - Steve Crawford

Frederick Stevenson

Steve Crawford started his Barossa label under the pseudonym of Frederick Stevenson whilst working at a larger winery.

Now, flying solo, Steve's minimalist, vibrant vinos are garnering plenty of attention for the lighter shade of the region that they portray.

He looks for vineyards that are farmed organically or sustainably, believing that healthy vines make better wines. And little tinkering in the winery preserves the natural brightness and personality of the sites he works with.

Steve is an exciting producer and firmly part of the Barossa avant-garde movement.
