Description

Frankland Estate gets most attention for their world class Riesling, but their Shiraz ranks up there with WA's best.  This 'estate' Shiraz is a great intro to their style and simply brilliant value for money.

Co-fermented with a tiny touch of Touriga Nacional and Viognier, this is a highly aromatic, balanced, and food-friendly expression pf Shiraz that delivers serious regional pedigree without the premium price tag.

The wonderful 2023 vintage gave the team ideal conditions to process the fruit as slowly and gently as possible. They utilized cool, open fermenters and an extended maceration to extract optimal texture and spice without any harshness. Maturation for 14 months in large 500-litre French oak puncheons and stainless steel tanks ensured the wood stayed in a supportive role, keeping the primary fruit beautifully intact.

It presents a dark purple colour in the glass, opening with an inviting mix of blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, and a hit of Aussie bush notes and roast meats. The palate is soft, plush, and effortlessly drinkable, balancing its juicy core of dark cherry and raspberry fruit with a silky, smooth-running texture and a fine grunt of tannin.

This is a wonderfully harmonious, medium-bodied Shiraz that swaps heavy-handed oak for pure, spice-driven refreshment and outstanding value.

"A gorgeous thing, it is not too long and not too complex, but everything about it is just so. It speaks with clarity about the terroir."

94 points - "An impressive red from the wonderful 2023 vintage, fermentation was achieved as slowly as possible, followed by an extended maceration and then maturation for fourteen months in a mix of 500-litre French oak puncheons and stainless steel tanks. The team has been known to co-ferment a dollop of both Touriga Nacional and Viognier with the Shiraz. This is a spicy, red-fruited gem. A dark magenta/purple, the aromas include notes of cassis, plums, spices, dark chocolate, raspberries, dried herbs and roast meats with hints of animal skins lurking in the background. There is a juicy line of acidity running the length and the wine has both balance and concentration throughout. Lot to like here. Enjoy it over the next eight to ten years." - Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)

93 points - "The 2023 Shiraz is, like the Cabernet tasted alongside it, mineral, spicy and fine. It is all dried herbs and petals, graphite, cold tea and blackberries. There's a silkiness here that extends through the finish. A gorgeous thing, it is not too long and not too complex, but everything about it is just so. It speaks with clarity about the terroir. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

92 points - "The thing you get with this is a sense of pure shiraz fruit. An effortless drink, soft and plush, dark cherry, mocha, cola, salted licorice, mint leaf, clove, but in all that a wonderful harmony, a pleasing and raspy grunt of tannin, the core all sloshy and fun. It's so pleasing here, does well for the variety, and the entry fee is very well judged. Right on." - Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

92 points - "Impressive dark, dense purple hues. Starts quietly with a lilting scent of Aussie bush notes, black fruit, smoked meats, vanilla and spice. Gains a stronger voice when tasted with a more obvious generosity of fruit and presence lifted aromatically by a warm, inviting spiciness. Sturdy, firm tannins roll out across the palate and with them a smooth-running texture, the perfect vehicle for a wealth of ripe black and red fruits, earth, sweet spiced oak and liquorice." - Jeni Port (Wine Pilot)

91 points - "Touriga Nacional 2.5% and Viognier 1.5% co-fermented.

Blue fruit, quite nutty, apricot marmalade, mint, spice and floral notes. It’s medium-bodied, quite meaty and savoury, yet has some raspberry rope sweetness to it, a nice spread of tannin, and finishes juicy with good length." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Frankland Estate

Frankland Estate are one of the leading producers in the Frankland River region of WA. Family owned and operated since 1988, their major focus is on certified organically grown fruit that reflects its terroir rather than the hand of the winemaker.

Their cool climate Rieslings are regarded as some of the best in the region and the country with several single vineyard releases that could be a contender for Australia's Best Riesling.

Frankland Estate is cutting a mean wave through the industry and picking up a lot of recognition in the process.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
