Merlot doesn’t always get the love it deserves in Australia, but Blue Poles has been quietly rewriting that story for years. Their 2023 Reserve Merlot is a great example of just how serious and delicious this grape can be when it’s treated with care. Grown on their small Wilyabrup vineyard and made in tiny volumes, this is about as far from “everyday Merlot” as you can get.
The wine shows off plush black and red fruits, hints of chocolate and spice, and that lovely earthy undertone that gives Merlot real depth. It’s rich without being heavy, with fine tannins and a long, flowing finish that makes you stop and take notice. There’s plenty of immediate charm here, but it also has the structure and balance to reward time in the cellar.
This is the kind of bottle that makes you rethink everything you thought you knew about Merlot. Limited, beautifully put together, and excellent value considering the quality, it’s one of Blue Poles’ standout wines and a clear sign of just how good the variety can be in Margaret River.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.
