Description

The 2023 Bleasdale Wellington Road GSM is a stellar choice for those after great value in a red. Coming from Bleasdale, Australia’s second-oldest family-owned winery, this wine carries a legacy without the hefty price tag.

Established in 1850 by Frank Potts, Bleasdale has been crafting wines in Langhorne Creek for over six generations, and this blend is a nod to that tradition.

Named after the original road leading to Bleasdale, the Wellington Road GSM combines Grenache, Shiraz, and Mourvèdre into a bright crimson drop bursting with cherry and blackberry flavours. A dash of nutmeg and white pepper adds a bit of spice, while the soft, chalky tannins make it an easy, enjoyable drink.

Ideal with pork belly or duck, this wine is great to enjoy now or tuck away for a bit of ageing. At just $25, it’s a fantastic find that brings a piece of history to your glass without breaking the bank.

96 points
"Glorious GSM. Velvety and flavoursome with perfectly crafted tannin and the length to match. Red berries and blue, peppercorns and cedar, sweet spices and florals. Bass and treble, mid-tones and reverb. This is the goods."
- Campbell Mattinson (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "A blend of 51/49% shiraz/cabernet sauvignon estate and grower fruit. Of course it’s showing off its array of fruit flavours at this age: plums, blackberries, cassis and some redcurrants, too. Wafts of menthol and florals move to flavours of pepper, licorice, cedary sweet oak with snips of fresh herbs. The fuller-bodied palate is coated with plentiful tannins and the impression overall is of a slight rawness that will abate in time. This is going to last some distance." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

    Good Value

At this price, this represents good value. Tasty Grenache blend.

Bleasdale continues its long history of producing high quality blended wines. Grenache and
Shiraz were originally grown in Langhorne Creek for fortified winemaking but are proving to be
excellent for table wine. Nurtured from small parcels into a vibrant, delicious drink.

Bleasdale

Historic South Australian wine producer, Bleasdale, was established in 1850 by English migrant Frank Potts who arrived on the HMS Buffalo in 1836. For four generations, the Potts family have farmed their portion of Langhorne Creek, and are baked into the lore of South Australia's rich and multifaceted agricultural/viticultural history.

Their current-day winemaker, Paul Hotker, has had an incredible run of late. In 2017 he was named the 2018 Halliday Wine Companion Winemaker of the Year, in 2019 he took out Australia's most coveted Wine Show accolade, the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy.

In 2023 they were awarded the highly coveted Halliday Winery of the Year. Regardless of your preferred wine style, there is something of exceptional value on offer from Bleasdale here for you.
