Description

Amisfield always bring a bit of intent to their Pinot Gris, and the 2023 vintage follows suit. It’s grown on their home blocks near Lake Dunstan, where the combination of warm days and cool nights gives the wine its easy balance between ripeness and refreshment.

Made mostly in stainless steel, with just a hint of old oak in the mix, it’s got that clean, pear-and-stonefruit generosity you want from Central Otago Gris, but there’s also a bit of texture and lift that keeps things interesting. No sugar gloss, no fluff—just a well-made, genuinely drinkable white that still feels like it came from somewhere.

If you like your whites crisp but not lean, soft but not sweet, this one lands right in the pocket. Great with anything from spicy prawns to a wedge of washed rind cheese.

93 points
"Navel orange and sweet pear on a softly chewy, dry palate… Grainy phenolics, earthy minerality and a hint of lanolin. Youthful austerity now, but will relax. A sophisticated, dry pinot gris."
- Stephen Wong (The Real Review)

93 points - "Bright and fruity with navel orange and sweet pear on a voluptuous, softly chewy, dry palate. The phenolics build with each sip, adding a grainy, woody dimension to the fruit-focused core. Some earthy minerality and a hint of lanolin on the back palate giving youthful austerity. This will relax after a year or two. Sophisticated, dry pinot gris which makes no concessions to the popular style." - Stephen Wong (The Real Review)

GROWING SEASON
A gentle winter and spring allowed ideal conditions for strong budburst and blossoming until December. Low frost and wind contributed to robust vine health, yielding a remarkably lush canopy. Extreme heat and low rainfall between December & February meant the vines struggled with water stress but grape ripening still tracked well. We anticipated an early harvest, however, temperatures moderated, and a cold March realigned us with historical norms. Harvest was marked with intermittent weather events, slowing us down, but allowing the team the opportunity to be more attentive to their picking of impeccably clean, high-quality fruit across the estate.

VINEYARD
Planted on a combination of Lochar stony gravels located on the top terrace above the winery and shallow sandy loam soils on the flats below.

WINEMAKING
Grapes were gently pressed and settled overnight before racking into a combination of fermentation vessels, with 25% fermented naturally in large oak barrels. The wine was then aged on light fluffy lees for 4 months to incorporate a textural element to the wine.

TASTING NOTES
A vibrant style of Pinot Gris with an attractive texture. Fresh yet elegant. Aroma is filled with delicate white flowers, nashi pear, white peach, and red apple, with a touch of cardamom and clove-like sweet spice. The shape starts with the fresh acidity followed by a juicy textural element from the gentle sweetness and barrel-aged portion. The hallmark Pisa minerality cuts through nicely on the long finish.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
