Description

Young Angus Vinden loves to experiment and get a little creative when it comes to winemaking, and in this release of his trio of Single Barrel Shiraz releases, he explores the terroir of the Somerset vineyard block by block, slope by slope.

Using fruit from the East block, planted way back in 1966, Vinden really puts these old plantings on show. The result is a beautifully energetic expression of Hunter Shiraz, gorgeously luxurious, full-bodied and full of spice.

Another top flight release from the young Vinden.

Best Smoky red

Earthy, Smokey and nutty red. This one is going to the top of my list of a very bold and charismatic bottle of red. Do yourself a favour!!

This Shiraz was sourced from our Somerset vineyard and handpicked in February. The blocks were planted on the Eastern slope by the Howard family in the 1966 on red volcanic clay soil, over a limestone hillside in Pokolbin. This wine was one of 3 barrels selected, each vintage I separate the three aspects of the vineyard; Easterly, Northerly and Westerly to explore the ‘Terroir’. Each block is vinified separately. The fruit was cold soaked, fermented in open concrete fermenters with wild yeast, hand plunged, basket pressed and aged in a 500L French oak puncheon for 11 months.

Vinden Estate

Angus Vinden, the dynamic young winemaker of Vinden Wines, is redefining this beloved Hunter Valley winery. Taking over from his father a few years ago, Angus has infused fresh energy into the family label, producing exciting, modern wines that are garnering attention from the country's leading wine scribes.

He focuses on the Hunter Valley's classic Semillon and Shiraz, excelling with Tempranillo and even Chenin Blanc while exploring these varieties with a creativity and flair rarely seen in the region. Angus expanded the estate with the purchase of the historic Somerset Vineyard, a vineyard with a storied past, having provided the fruit for some of the region’s most acclaimed wines over the last 50+ years. It is a very good thing for the region that this iconic site is now in Gus' hands.

Vinden Wines is a vibrant blend of tradition and innovation, making it hands down one of the Hunter Valley's most exciting up-and-coming labels.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
