Description

A glorious release of the Sinapius Close-Planted Pinot, a blend of two high density blocks, La Claireire and The Enclave, and it is a structured beauty.

It's got bundles of firm tannin and French oak power and spice, all surrounding a concentrated core of dark red cherries and plums.

Slippery, sinewy and youthful at present, this baby needs to be put down for a few years to realise its incredible potential as a great Tasmanian red wine.

95 points
"Gamey and pure with a rosehip note and a gamey trail as the wine slowly fades; tannins chalky and fine, and sour-cherry acidity totally on point."
- Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

Handpicked from two north-east facing high density blocks, La Clairiére and The Enclave, planted to 7,700 vines per hectare. Volcanic soils, 12 different Pinot Noir clones, and super low yields (<0.5kg per vine – 30hl/ha). Like previous vintages, the decision was made to blend both blocks as the wine was more complete than the sum of its parts.

The grapes were gently destemmed, naturally fermented with 100% whole berries for 3 weeks before pressing and maturing on full lees for 12 months in French oak barriques (20% new). Blended to tank to rest and integrate for 5 months. Unfined and unfiltered, this wine was bottled in September 2023.

An attractive array of red berries- raspberry, strawberry, the slight savouriness of rhubarb just blushing into ripeness and the clean fresh straw spread between them.

On the palate it reveals itself in layers, forest fruits yielding to the broodier notes of the forest floor. It’s etched with fine grit tannins.

It’s a taut and tense wine. Sinewy and svelte. It hums with latent potential.

Drink now (decanting recommended) or cellar up to 2032.

95 points - "Pipers River. Hand picked from two northeast-facing, high-density blocks, La Clairiére and The Enclave, planted to 7700 vines per hectare. There's a wisp of struck flint floating over the ripe wild strawberry, raspberry and dark cherry fruits here. Hints of exotic spice, Chinese barbecue shop, forest floor, rhubarb, pomegranate, pressed rose petals and earth. Gamey and pure with a rosehip note and a gamey trail as the wine slowly fades; tannins chalky and fine, and sour-cherry acidity totally on point." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

Sinapius

Sinapius is a premium boutique Tasmanian winery started by two young, passionate winemakers.

The couple, Vaughn Dell & Linda Morice, purchased the site when they were only 24-years-old and chose to plant their vines in the Burgundian fashion opting for high-density planting and low-yielding crops. Their small labour of love has budded into one of Tasmania's most exciting viticultural projects.

Vaughn passed away tragically in 2020, however, the Sinapius label continues under the guidance of Linda and the help of some loving friends. The Sinapius wines are of extremely high quality, made in small amounts and showcase their unique patch of dirt with transparency, purity and power.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
