Description

Sailor Seeks Horse has been one of the breakout Tasmanian producers of the last decade. The Lipscombes are one of Tasmanian wine's power couples, having taken Home Hill to soaring heights in recent times.

Their own private label is rare as hen's teeth and of supreme quality. Grown on their own vineyard in the Huon Valley, this is quickly becoming one of Tasmania's most sought-after white wines.

This is Chardonnay at its most pure and restrained. The wonderful fruit from this blossoming site squarely placed front and centre for all to admire. It's razor sharp, tightly wound and intensely focused.

This is a serious modern Australian Chardonnay.

96 points
"Light straw-yellow hue and a beautiful, haunting bouquet of dried flowers and herbs, citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit), wheat, cream and subtle details of croissant and crusty bread. Very finely textured palate, intense and balanced, savoury in nature and understated, the finish long and refreshing. Super impressive chardonnay!"
- Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

2022 was a standout vintage for Chardonnay in the Huon Valley. Just the right combination of weather and yields to create wines of precision and balance. Our hallmark tends to be a slatey, briney, almost mineral-like palate weight which unites the three Chardonnays from 2022.

The clone 76 is its typically aromatic self, fermented on skins to give texture and flavour but with that precise acid line to keep it fresh. The Huldufolk's whole-bunch pressing straight to oak gives it depth and palate weight while the Chardonnay is all about cool-climate elegance.

Whole bunch pressed, 'hyperox' into press tray, 12 hour settle in tank, racked to 300L hogsheads, 20% new, wild ferment, no MLF, full lees 12 months' elevage in barrel, then 3 months in tank before bottling. Not fined. Mostly 277 and 95 clones with a little 96. Citrus, stone fruit, slatey middle palate, touch of richness, spice, white pepper

    Sailor seeks Horse Chardonnay

A big chardonnay. Some elements of butteriness and oakiness. Great.

Sailor Seeks Horse

Sailor Seeks Horse is one of the Apple Isle's most exciting new producers. It's a husband and wife team behind the scenes, Paul and Gilli Lipscombe.

The Lipscombes produce exquisite Pinot Noir and Chardonnay off their estate vineyard, planted by their own hands, back in 2005. The wines have startling energy to them, with a pinpoint balance of fruit and savoury spice. They are released in perilously small amounts and are never around for long.

With the small cult following the couple have garnered since starting their own label, their wines are now hunted by serious collectors who want to be in on the ground floor.

As Mike Bennie declared with Paul and Gilli's inaugural 2013 Pinot Noir release, "We have here a new star in the making." Tasmanian Pinot and Chardonnay lovers, don't miss these scintillating wines.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
